I have a couple deep scratches on the shafts of my Fat Shaft irons, but they're under the grip. Will this have any effects on the club?

How deep are the scratches? If they are deep, it could get ugly. But it has to be pretty deep to really affect it (deeper than the resin?).

Do you replace your grips yourself?

In case you donΒ΄t, don't go back to the shop / store where you get your clubs gripped.

Looks like not much care has been taken when removing your old grip and tape.

Keep playing until you start noticing something wrong.

What would I notice going wrong?

You would only be holding the grip the the rest of the shaft and club head would have traveled further then your ball... lol (j/k)

If they are really deep I would have it checked out and if not, I wouldn't worry about them.

well if the scratch is deep enough it could compromise the structural integrity of the shaft, in essence if you have a solid impact on the ball, the vibrations could cause the expand to expand eventually causing the shaft to break.

This depends on how deep the scratch really is...

I had this happen to me on my X-14 graphite shafted 9 iron. Perfect, solid hit. What I thought to be just a scratch at the bottom of the shaft just above the hosel was apparently more than just a scratch. After impact, the head of my iron went sailing down the way. This was while practicing at a driving range, and they never found where my iron head went. Hence, I'm now the proud owner of an X-22. Just be careful and monitor how the mark looks after use in the future.
