Recently bought a set of X-22 Tours with the Project X 6.0 shafts and GP multi grips. This was an upgrade form X-18 clones as I needed a stiffer shaft and wanted a bit more workability. I was torn between the 5.5's and 6.0 but in the end went 6.0 as I seem to continue to improve. During the fitting my swing speed, ball speed, etc was between the two and it was about feel according to the pro.

On to the review. I love the look of the club as the head and top line are very appealing to the eye. They are much easier to shape left & right, and control trajectory. Miss hits are much less forgiving then the others but pure shots feel fantastic. Smaller head cuts through the rough better then previous set and the spins on pure shots is much more then the old clubs (my time too much).

I've only had 3 rounds since I bought them last week and still getting used to the distance with them. The lofts are 1 degree more for 4-8i which messed my head up. Would have been better if I didn't know but carry has not been effected much. Maybe I'm over swinging harder. So far strangely enough the 4i is my favorite club. Figures I was driving like crap and missed a few too many putts resulting in a bit higher then my normal score. I'll update once I get at least 10 rounds with them and can really give feedback...

I have X20 Tours but had to replace my 4 iron and I bought an X22 Tour 4 iron instead.

In my opinion, the X22 Tours are a huge improvement over the X20 Tours. They come much closer to the blade-like characteristics that the "Tour" model is supposed to have. The things I like better about them are the same as you: better look, smaller head, better feel on solid shots, more feedback.

I would place them below AP2s and MP 57s on the scale of blade-like characteristics for cavity backs, but above most other cavity back models. They are a great choice if you want some of the benefits of a blade, as described above, while still maintaining some of the Callaway cavity back forgiveness.

What were your numbers when you were getting fit for the X-22 Tours? I was hitting them with PX6.0's and my numbers were fine but too bad they didn't have 5.5's in stock for me to try out.

I would've thought that they would've been placed in between AP1's and AP2's.

I did not take notice to the numbers the pro was just explained to me that I was in between them and either or would be fine. I carry my 7i 160 if that helps.

I was told the 5.5 are close to DG S3000 stiff and the 6.0 are a bit stiffer.

New to these forums and I created an account mainly to respond to this in hopes of helping anyone who is already considering purchasing these irons. Let me start off by saying I am by no means a great golfer (handicap of 21.0 give or take) though most of my strokes are related to my short game (mostly putting =/). I recently purchased a set of these irons by mistake. I know right. I ordered the Callaway X-22 after some lengthy thought process between the X-22s and the Taylormade 2009 Burner irons. I sided with Callaway due to price but I have a faster swing speed (113 mph with driver) so I needed a stiffer shaft than the X-22 uniflex so I had my Golf shop reshaft with the 6.0s that are found on the X-22 tours. So the shop calls to tell me they are in and I pick them up and get them home. Turns out they just gave me the X-22 Tours instead. The shop tells me to try them and if I like them I can keep them without any extra charge!! So I take them to the range and do all right but not great but I was going on a golf trip so didn't have time to wait for the shop to re-shaft the correct set so I take them with me. I have a bit of trouble in the over swinging department so on my trip I 'chunked' my iron shots here and there due to these being much more to the players side but the shots I hit well felt great. So I return from the trip and I am considering still trading them in for the more game improvement X-22s but I decide to play just one more round... Let me tell you that I am glad that I did. Once I realized I didn't have to be Johnny Toughpants and try to crush the ball with these irons my ball striking drastically improved. In my last round I can count the number of times on one hand that I hit a bad shot. Pure shots just jump off the face and land great. I usually hate par 3s but this last round I played 4 par 3s just +2 and for me that is great (usually I play the same 4 about +4 or +5 XD). Long story short I just want to say that these are not solely for low handicappers and if you are like me and hate looking down at a big cavity these clubs are well worth it so long as you are willing to take some time to correct your swing. These clubs did not give me a great first impression but I have to say I am now hooked and may well become a Callaway man after all. Thanks!

    • 44 (9 over) Had a few pars, a few not pars. Played out of 2 traps. game would be much easier if my driver would go straight down the middle. But no, it wants to go right or left and never let me play out of the fairway.
    • Interesting 9 holes last night... Hole 1 - Sliced into the tree line and hit a tree on the approach where I ended up losing yardage. Hole 2 - took me 2 chips and 2 putts to get in the hole Hole 4 - rinsed my approach into the pond. With all that being said, I was +4 on those first 4 holes, but got locked in and played the final 5 holes at -1.   Ended up with a 39 (+3). Foolish game.
