Non-Scotty Cameron Ball Tools

I lurked on this thread for awhile - the Scotty Cameron Ball tool thread.

Now, I love me some Scotty Cameron, but I also LOSE me some stuff all the time. I'm not sure where it goes, but I lose ball markers, tees, and all sorts of things out of my pockets, so $40 or whatever for a ball marker is out of my league since I'll probably lose it in a week. I really like how they look, I've held a friend's and I love the feel and weight, but I can't afford $40 every week or two.

I wanted to start a thread about this Putting Tool . Has anyone bought one? They like it? Could be a good alternative - not as great as the Cameron (or, as some might say, not as overpriced - I'm not one of those, but whatever), but not as costly when I lose them every other time out.

NB: I think Butch is talking about ball markers with lines on them, like the one he put a picture of or the Scotty Cameron Ball Tool.

This isn't a thread about general ball markers with no lines on them.

Thanks for the PM, or I would never have seen this posting. In answer to your questions, I have bought a few of these, I just ordered some more for gifts. IMO, not only are they "as great" as the Cameron tool, they are superior in every way. I was just golfing in Vegas and my friend had his Cameron tool and we did a side by side comparison. The Cameron tool has nothing on the Putting tool. Nothing. (OK, it does come with a Grampa-had-one change holder case) The colors and design of this tool make it easier to "read", it's also a tad heavier than the Cameron thing. I clip mine to the back of my divot/ballmarker tool that I normally use, the raised lines on this device protect the paint. I can pull the entire ensemble out of my pocket as it becomes one unit. If I need the assistance with the putt, I use the Putting tool, otherwise I use my old magnetic ballmark. The Putting tool workmanship is real quality. I was never an aiming line putter guy until I bought this thing. It works great. The longer putts may still not go in, but at least I'm more confident in my setup. OK, dude, let's not get carried away. I like the shape of the Cameron ones more and I find the silver/red far more attractive than the garish colors. The weight is good, too. "Superior in every way"? There aren't that many ways something this simple can even be different let alone superior.

I'm glad you've shared your opinion, but I'm not sure why you feel the need to keep bashing the Cameron one. Frankly, I'd buy that one just to avoid the godawful color scheme of these things if I didn't lose things so frequently.

How do you clip it? Or are you saying the raised parts protect the paint when you clip it? Cameron's has recessed painted areas, so they'd be protected too.

And I've never seen a good divot repair tool with a clip, but that's not the topic here, so... thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Dude , Did you not PM me seeking out my thoughts on the Putting Tool? I answered your questions based on personal experience. Is that not what you were looking for? I compared the devices side by side, and gave an honest review. Apparently, you didn't like what I had to say. You think my opinion "bashes" the Cameron device? Do you think that something simple can't be improved upon? Why are you so interested in the Putting Tool if you have no intention of buying one (based on the "godawful color scheme" that you've never seen personally?) By the way, those bright colors make it so much easier to line up from a distance behind the marker than muted lines. <~~~~ Another opinion based on personal experience. I wasn't looking for someone who seems to bear some sort of bizarre grudge against a piece of metal. I found your opinion, disappointingly, to be quite bizarre.

How in the heck does the Putting Tool "improve" on Cameron's? So far as I can tell - and the only reason I'm interested - the only real improvement is that it doesn't cost as much. The only other real "features" of it, to me, seem to be worse: ugly colors, rounded back.

Silver and red aren't "muted" lines in my opinion. I've seen a buddy's Cameron thing, and I didn't have problems looking at the line.

Ditto. You seem personally invested in this somehow. And I'm sure you will say you won't, but "superior in every way" and other silly comments don't make sense to me. It's a piece of metal with some lines on it - how many "ways" are there? The shape and colors don't appeal to me. The price does. Those are about the only three "ways" I can think of. You said it's heavier - it's not like the Scotty tool is made from aluminum - perhaps that means it's thicker, and frankly, the Scotty tool is already probably too thick.

So thanks for your opinion, but just because you have one doesn't preclude me from assigning my own values nor from forming my own opinion of your opinions. Dude

I picked up one of these. The price is right and quality seems good enough.

Whether it helps my putting or not is another question... not sure about that one.

Makes decent marker at the very least.

Actually I bought one for me and one for my girlfriend and he sent me a "poker-chip" style one for free.

I'm thinking of emailing him and asking if he can do a plain old color scheme: white and black or something. The yellow/red, blech.

I wonder if he can do logos easily and other things. The owner of this site should commission a run of 200 or 250 or something and sell 'em with a Sand Trap logo, or give 'em to the long-time members or something.

Sorry to bring this old thread up but I am comparing these 2 tools and just wondering which tool was thicker?  I've read reviews that the Cameron tool is too thick and wanted to know how the putting tool compares.  any info would be appreciated. SUBMIT
