54 hole tournament last weekend

Scoring summary below:

0 eagles
1 birdie
26 pars
10 bogeys
12 doubles
1 triple
4 quadruples

What the hell? 50% of the holes played in 1-under and 50% in 50 over! Not sure what you can say, but I thought it was interesting. I didn't think I played as poorly as my score and I think this says it all.

Ouch!

Turn all those "others" into bogies and you save 26 strokes......almost 9 per round! Any kind of trend for the big numbers?

You can conclude that you're not consistent at all.

If I had to guess, it probably means that you compound your mistakes by trying to make too good of a recovery rather than just taking your medicine and taking the bogey. Really, if you drive it in the crap, there's nothing wrong with just hacking it back to the fairway rather than trying to hack it toward the green and not getting out of trouble.

do you take a lot of risk shots? given your 26 pars, you obviously can play decently, so i'm just guessing the triples and quadruples came from things like losing balls OB or in water hazards? if that's the case, just bite the bullet and lay-up on any shot that looks like it could even turn out remotely bad. clocking in a bogey or even a double is better than dealing with the dreaded snowman (or worse).

Ouch!

Exactly! The only trend I can think of was poor wedge play from around 100 yards. What doesn't show up is all the birdie chances I squandered from less than 100 yards. I made double+ from less than 100 yards at least 5times that I can recall. I also made quadruple twice by blading bunker shots WAY over the green, but on the other hand I had 3 brilliant sand saves.

This is exactly what I have had issues with all year, consistency. Like another poster mentioned, you would think that I was trying to do too much to save pars, but in reality that isn't the case. The quads just kind of happened as if I forgot how to play momentarily, not from trying to do too much. I never lost my temper either. It was a strange strange weekend.

yeah, you would think that but my first quad came on a par 3. Tee shot short right and shortsided myself, chunked a chip into the bunker, bladed the bunker shot 30 yards over the green, chipped back up and 3 putted. Another very similar quad on a par 4. I shanked a ball into fescue from 150 on par 4 and lost it and 3 putted for another. Some of it undoubtedly nerves, but not really any were from stupidity.

that being the case... short game, short game, short game. three-putts are killers. i'd spend some time on the practice green just working on approach putts. don't even worry about making the putts, just get them to be consistently within a few feet of the cup. i'd also spend 30 mins or an hour a couple of times a week at the range just working on shots from 100 yards in. if you can start hitting the green 3/4 of the time from inside 100, and avoid those three-putts, your scores will drop drastically and you'll nudge towards consistency in scoring.

Agree about the 100 yards in, but putts are a bit misleading. Putts per day 35/34/28. The last day I did miss a couple 2 footers but made everything else within 10 feet and lipped out a couple bombs. First day, would be considered a poor putting day for sure.

No doubt about wedge play, it was very very bad. Also in case anyone is wondering 84-89-86

What were your doubles and higher on? Missed Greens? 4 putts? I would say short game is the easiest thing to improve of course as everyone has said, but it also helps when your sticking your wedges and irons closer to the pins. How do you do when you miss the fairway?
Maybe a break down of par 3 par 4 par 5 performance.

Zero 4 putts, 6 3-putts (4 on first day)

Par 3's (there are 5 par 3's on this course) 1 birdie 4 pars 3 bogeys 4 doubles 1 triple 2 quads (same hole) +21 for the weekend Par 5's (there are 3 par 5's) 0 birdies 7 pars 0 bogeys 2 doubles 0 triples 0 quads +4 for the weekend Par 4's (obviously 10 of them) 0 birdies 15 pars 8 bogeys 4 doubles 0 triples 2 quadruples +24 for the weekend That's pretty interesting, I never would have guessed this. The par 3's are definitely the most difficult holes on the course.
