Your current clubs:

Irons?
Driver?
Woods / Hybrids?
Putter?
Wedges?

When do you plan on replacing them?

Me:

Irons - 2 seasons (replacing next season), I was talked into buying graphite shafts on Adams Ideas. I like the hybrids (3 & 4) but wish I had only 1 with a 4 iron. I did not know better at the time.

Driver: 3 seasons: (not sure). I am playing with the Taylormade 580XD and I like it. Although drivers are fun to buy, they are pricey and not sure if I want to spend.

Hybrids: Adams 3 & 4 I-wood (going to keep them). When i get new Irons, I am going to bring these with me. Possibly both or maybe just the 3 depending on room.

Wedges: My Ping Lob Wedge is my money club. I love it! Pitching wedge will go with new clubs. I have a Taylormade ICW-11 that is collecting dust (yeah it will go).

Putter: Odyssey White Hot - New York Yankees Putter. This was a gift and I love it! it has a Yankees grip and the Yankees logo on the face.

I got engaged on November 19, 2005 to a lady who had bought me a Taylormade R580XD, Adams Irons a Calloway "MLB" bag, a Calloway Golf jacket (different holidays / birthdays / etc) and tells me I should "go play with the guys."

Sounds like a keeper to me!!! My wife ( of 1 month) was told up front when we started dating..."I play golf... I don't mean I go out once a month and hack it around... I play every day unless it is snowing or lightning. Otherwise, I will be at the golf course. My ex-wife used to complain about that all the time and I told her not to make me make a choice."

She said, "Oh, I see." Golf has never been a problem since.

I will say 1 bad thing about my Fiancee - she put her foot down in regards to me bringing my clubs on our honeymoon - Guess I am renting ;)

Seriously though, she is great when it comes to me playing. She knows I do not go out and party much and this also means, I don't get to see my friends a lot (most of them do not not live very close). She always is saying to go play with the guys or my uncles or whomever. Sometimes I think she is cheating on me but as long as it keeps me playing!!!

Irons 6 or 7 years, I have tested many, but just seem to hit these well. I can work these enough and don't like the fact that newer game improvement irons are almost impossible to work and not good enough to play better player irons yet.
Driver 1 year
4 iron wooe, 3 wood & 5 wood 3 years
lw 5 years
sw 10 years
7w more than ten less than 15 I am not sure
Putter 15 years, although I rotate a couple of Hog putters a semi mallet and a blade, 35 inch, ping is 34 inch shaft and if my back bothers me I take it out for a while.
I vary which clubs I carry depending on the course and weather.

I played Maxfli Revolution irons for 4 years until I just flat wore them out. They are retired now, but I cannot bear to part with them. They are still in one of my spare bags, just in case.

Right now I am playing a set of Titleist DCI 990 and Tommy Armour EVO-31 R.O. Blades trying to decide between them. I like the length of the TA's, but like the accuracy of the Titleists.

Taylormade R580 driver. Bought it about 2 weeks before the R7 hit the market.. Great timing, huh? But I do love the way it works. My previous driver was a Titleist 975D with an extra stiff shaft. I decided I was too old to swing that hard anymore trying to get that shaft to work properly.

i pretty much have finally found the clubs that i'm comfortable with... the 4 wood completed my transistion amd should be good for about a year or two with most of the clubs (irons, wedges, putter: will stay for a while; driver, 4 wood, hybrid: most likely get new in year or two)... i'm happy for now though

I'm almost comfortable with everything in my bag currently:

Driver = 3 months, but I clicked with it instantly, never been happier with a driver

Hybrid = Same deal, about 3 months, hit it great as soon as the wrapper came off it

Irons = 4 years, I hit the short irons really well, I tend to draw-hook the long irons, I'm beginning to think the offset is a little too much

Wedges = 3 months, I love the feel there, plus there's enough forgiveness on full swing shots

Putter = 3 years, it's the old futura, I still love it.

Any suggestions on a new set of irons? I've been eyeing a used set of 804.OS

I have just changed over from Ping Zings to Callaway irons. I played with the Pings for years (10 to 15) not sure when Ping came out with the Zings) and I have a Cubic Balance Driver I love to hit. I've got a Cleveland VAS putter I like and a fairway wood called a Flying Saucer that I hit well. All but the Callaway Great Big Berthas I've had for a bunch of years. I don't like the new big head drivers!.....My son hits the older Callaway Big Bertha Driver and he hits it over 300 yds consistantly but he also played on the Nike Tour for several years and can smash the ball a mile. He came within inches of double eagling a par 5 hole the other day with most of the regulars on the next tee box watching. He hit it 220 into the green with a 2 iron and it slowly rolled past the pin about 3ft. I laid up to 90 yds and hit a wedge to about 7 ft. past and made the birdie. He eagled it with no problem.

Golf is not a game, it's a way of life!

Driver...Cubic Balance offset
Fairway wood......Flying Saucer
3-Wood....Cleveland LauncherIrons.......Callaway Great Big Bertha w/graphite shaftswedges....Cleveland sand wedge, Callaway Lob wedge putter....Claveland VAS.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
