Okay, I know....I'm closer to 11 than I am to 10. LOL. Actually it's pretty silly to even call myself a 10, but ANYWAY, just wanted to start this shameless thread since this is my first dip into the 10's!

I think you need to pat yourself on the back every once in a while when playing this game because it's so easy to let the negativity creep in and take control.

Not sure if I'll be hanging around with you 10's for long, I may take a trip back to see the 11's. But who knows maybe I can hang on for a while!

Anyone dipping into unchartered territory this year as far as handicaps go? Let's hear some success stories.

Congrats man! It's always a good feeling when your handicap drops. I actually just started keeping mine this year...I only have 26 scores posted. I actually thought mine would be around a 6 or 7, so having a 4.7 after 26 scores really got me excited! I am working with a teacher now to get it down as close to scratch as I can. I know what areas need work....it is just a matter of getting the practice in to fix those areas.

I am in re-charted territoy right now. I have been down to a 14 5 or 6 years ago. Then I had kids and slipped up over 20, then didn't golf enough to keep a cap. This year i started "playing" again and just got back to 17. I think 18 is more a milestone handicap, and then the next big milestone is 9 (single digit baby!)

Very nice $2! Congrats indeed!

This is my first year carrying a GHIN handicap. I started the season at 18.9 (very rough start) and as of todays revision I'm sitting at 14.1. Am really hoping to get to where you are (I'll take lower though....single digit was my goal coming into the season) by seasons end....we shall see. Everything is feeling good so far.

I go between a 8-12 so I compromise at 10, that way I dont have to change it, next year I plan on solid 5 or lower, damn it. I mean it.

My handicap has stayed around a 10 all year. I haven't had THAT many rounds, as I did last year, so I haven't had many opportunities to really shoot some low rounds.

I'll be getting out more in August though, I used all of the end of June and July to really work on my game at the driving range and lessons...it's finally starting to pay off quite a bit, as my last few rounds I played to a 8.2, and a 9.8.

For a brief period of time I snuck into the 12s, but a couple bad rounds later and BANG. I was a 14. Trying to start tumbling downward again.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
