Got them in the mail today! Unwrapped them and drove directly to the driving range. Took out the PW, took a deep breath, and hit it PERFECTLY! I immediately looked at the club face, and sure enough, a few shavings of white ball cover right on the grooves dead center on the milled face! Continued to hit about 250 balls, while sweating my own two off in the 90's weather we somehow found ourselves with today. I just did not want to put the clubs down! And true to what everyone here said, mishits were definitely more noticeable than with the X18's! The only problems I had were with anything above the 5i. I couldn't seem to connect properly and when I did, I ended up with a pretty decent slice. I'll be continuing to work on this, and might even give them the nod in a 9 hole practice round this sunday. I'll post pictures as soon as I find the memory card for my camera!

Which shafts did you put in them? Did you order these directly from Callaway?

More importantly, congrats on the new sticks. Mine should be here, tomorrow (not X Prototype) and I'll be running to the range with them, too.

The X22s are cavity back GI's. The X prototypes are muscle back players irons.

Ah, yes, and about $600 more

Those are pretty awesome shafts. Must make a killer combo with those Prototype heads. Are the heads noticably smaller than most blades from heel to toe? Did you try any other blades before buying those?

It is a very nice combination. The heads are quite small. I can't compare them to other irons via photo for you, but when I do take and upload the photos of mine I'll compare them to my X18s. Just side by each, the X proto's are quite smaller with a MUCH thinner top profile (never realized how thick the X18's top line is!).

I tried the X tours and the X Prototypes before I bought the prototypes. I hit both rather well on the range (they belonged to two different friends), and really wanted to stay all Callaway. I'm very happy with them.

Congrats on the clubs - they are quite a pretty penny, but I loved them myself. I hit them once at a callaway demo day, well, actually just a six iron. I really fell in love with it myself, but am content with my mp 57's and dont feel like spending 1400 dollars on a set of irons.

but they were the best feeling callaway irons ive ever hit though.

    • When I got to Florida this season (seasons instead of years since the years overlap) one of the guys asked what I had done, said I was about twenty yards longer with my driver. Said that I had a different driver which was true but looking back it’s really the shaft that’s been the difference. It’s similar in principle to the Autoflex in that it’s light weight and also light flex. Since most of my clubs are bought used I have difficulty finding senior shafts most of the time and being old and slow that’s what I need. Bought the Callaway driver, for several years I preferred Ping drivers, because they only had a couple of used drivers with senior shafts in my price range and it’s been probably the best I’ve had. Longer and very forgiving, decent distance even on my mishits and almost always in play. Keep in mind that my swing speed is probably under 70mph.
    • Day 17 - First round of the year. It took me about 6 holes to remember how to hit off grass. Short game was lacking, but the round could’ve been much worse. It’s nice that my new “bad” is my old “good.”
