Dunno, never played a Cali course.

Doral was overpriced, as were a few others in S. Florida. The local Ross-designed course that cost $18 twilight (after 3pm) was a better deal for the money.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have posted an article on Phil's phantastic pheat (62 at Spyglass) and pose the question of whether $405 + caddy and hotel, is really a good golf value/worth the money.

I played Spyglass when I first started playing golf about three years ago, then it was $280 or so plus a $60 caddie who was a pain. I didn't think it was really worth the $$ personally, but then again I'm sure I'd appreciate it much more now that I'm a more seasoned player and can keep it in the short grass a bit more.

Pebble Beach I'd pay $400 for. The views, the history, the golf I think it's all worth it. Just walking down the 18th fairway would make my day. When I think golf course, the first image that pops into my mind is the 18th at pebble beach. While $400 is still a lot considering other championship courses like TPC canyons which was $220 and and Monument Course at Troon North which runs about $240 too. Personally, I'd rather play one round at Pebble than play both of those courses. Pebble Beach is on my short list of courses I must play before I die along with the Old Course, Alisa at Turnberry, Stadium at TPC Sawgrass, and Fancourt Links.

I agree with the Old Course but any course that ties a room to it just to play it kind of turns me off.Southern Cal courses are nice, the Mrs.and I have played Torrey South and love Steele Canyon in San Diego but even Torrey was a rip for out of staters 90.00 as opossed to 12.50 for residents.I also think that 75 percent of TPC courses are not worth the money but that is just me.

    • I'm confused - the team of two is playing a scramble but the single player is playing best of two balls or is he playing a one man scramble with two shots? If the single is best of two balls, then I'd bet on the pair playing a scramble everytime. If it's a two man scramble versus a single person scramble, I'd take the single, at least until fatigue was a factor. Give a regular play two shots and I think he is going to play better than the other two guys. That said, probably works better for the solo for 9 holes than 18. If the solo was smart and self aware of his game, and many of us are not as aware as we should be, he would conserve his energy and not play a second swing after a good shot.
