I play a round today and im a 22hi.

I have a horrible topping problem with driver.

Tee off on EVERY par 4 and 5 on my front nine to less than 120 yards and some less than 80 yards.

I had zero approach shots from within 160 ZERO.Most wer 180 -220 I shot a 46.
2 par 3's I par'd and Dbogey.

Back Nine

every par 4 or 5 i shoot the same, shot a 47. I did have one from 160 yards for my approach the rest were 200 yards or more from tee. Par 3's were bogey bogey.

ALAS on the 18th hole my pop has me open the face of my driver almost 2 inches. I drive a solid 265 no roll. In disbelief I re tee and use the open face driver and unleash hell and 290 yards little roll(2 inches of rain last nite).
I go in the water on 2, drop 3 hit a 180 yard iron over a pond and trees uphill, then sink a 25 ft putt.

First ...Thanks to my POP
2nd cant wait to try this driver grip on a new round.

93 total score. I count 12 wasted tee shots when compared to my potential.

Picking my head up!!!

You sure about that?

I took a couple months off due to illness, and when i started playing again i hit my irons very solid but just topped the crap out the ball with any wood type of club i touched (and yes i knew to keep the head down)! I remember standing at one tee box hitting 4!!!! straight tops with my driver and just couldnt figure it out. Couple days later it just is gone and i havent topped one in probably 2 weeks now - strange thing huh?

    • I have an update… I don't have much of a response, because the fact that they would ADD the numbers for the lead and trail shoulder together… I mean, wow. I was giving them too much credit. Nobody would think to assume they were doing THAT. That's beyond comical. One of the biomechanists I talked to put it this way: "So if I squatted down and went from 180 to 90 deg knee angle, then I would say 180 deg range of motion because I have two knees?" I'd type more (maybe), but honestly, I'm laughing a bit too hard. 🤣 Update: Mini Manavian blocked me on Instagram, so I cannot see his post showing Bryson with about 50° of range of motion (with a driver) from P4 to P7, and 75° only if you go out to the mid-follow-through. What a terrible loss for me. 😉
    • Thanks, interesting to read. The swing is definitely very timing dependent. I hit it consistently I guess but consistently bad.
    • I've shot 91-74 on the same day before. Couple of years ago played a two round tournament on Bethpage Black. I shot 72 in the first round and 90 in the second. First round I played very well. Second round I played okay, but had about 5 shots that hit the lips of bunkers and bounced down into them. A couple of those wound up in footprints - I was unamused - and I failed to get them out. Anyway - lots of bunkers and my bunker play isn't great and then add a couple of footprints and me getting pretty tired and it added up to a lot.  Only you can really tell though what's causing the variance. It might be that your swing is very timing dependent and when it's timed well you play well and when it's not then it goes all over the place. In that case, some lessons and working on your swing could be the key. If it's more that you tend to feel like you hit it fairly consistently, but you have days where the shots come off and days where they don't, then that's more likely a course management issue. If that's what you need to work on, then you could read Lowest Score Wins and build a plan of attack based on that.  Rest assured though that a pretty big range from high to low is fairly common. Even PGA Tour players often have 18-20 shot spreads from best to worst rounds in a season. It's a common affliction among golfers.
