Hello, with the closing of the Foot-Joy Brockton factory and discontinuing of the Classics lines, I wonder if there are any golf shoes still made that feature Goodyear welt construction (in other words, can be resoled and last for 10+ years).

So, would you be willing to pay $400 for a pair of golf shoes that are super high-quality (i.e., same as makers like Allen Edmonds or Alden or the old Footjoy Classics)?

I got my Callaway XTT Precision for $29 for god's sake!

Thanks for the responses. I'd like to bump this a couple times if the mods don't mind. For those voted "Maybe," I'd love to hear your thoughts on what might influence your buying decision.

No way. I like to spend in the 75 - 100 range on Golf Shoes. You can find a quality pair that last about a good year or a little over it, depending on how much you play...I mean, if you're playing 10 rounds per year, they'll last far more than that. But if you are me who is playing around 70 rounds per year, then I prefer something fairly cheap, but quality (ex. I'm wearing the FootJoy DryJoy's right now; 80 dollars at Dick's, and they are very nice!)

What's interesting is that the golf shoe market, which was once like the dress shoe market, is becoming more like the athletic shoe market. In other words, buy them, use them, throw them away.

FWIW, I had my first pair of FootJoy Classics for over 10 years. I'd still have them, but I developed a nerve inflammation problem in my left foot that requires me to wear an E width instead of a D width. At $80 per year or so, I'd have spent at least $600 on golf shoes.

Nope....not unless I medically had to wear them to play the game.

I am currently enjoying a pair of Greenjoys that were under $40. They seem to be doing very well.....as good as some that cost me way more.

I didn't realize the Brockton plant shut down. But I'm not surprised. Ultra high end golf shoes seem to be a thing of the past.

I would never pay that kind of money for a golf shoe. I do believe in you get what you pay for, but there's a limit. I consider golf shoes a highly disposable product. I tend to buy a new pair every 18 months or so. They're meant to be played hard with, so I don't think tossing that much cash into something that won't last is sound. Plus, with new technology, shoes are comfy right out of the box and perform better than any of the lux level shoes. Lastly, no one wants to spend the time breaking in the fancy leather of those shoes anyway

I'm happy to stay with in the $100-150 range.

    • Good news. Now you can get the grip out of your palm… 😄
    • Nice mate, very nice. I'd say forget about weight until what you're doing stops working and go win some beers from your mates while you're in the zone!
    • Weight shift is next on the list but I need to groove this new feel and then work it back to a better shot shape. I started with a path +5 degrees out and a clubface -8 degrees. Hook city Ended with a path -0.5 and clubface +5. Straight fade/slice   So now just to dial it back a touch.
    • Whatever works best for you. Koodos.
    • Geez I love seeing improvement like that. Well done. As someone whose "natural" swing is out to in 2-3 degrees I have to really stay on my front side (like 80%) to get that back to closer to 0 or even + for a draw. A big backswing also makes the path even worse. On the contrary a really short backswing with heavy front foot creates a hook. And to clarify, I feel that weight through my foot, knee and hip, it's not just leaning to the front side, it's almost like winding the coil in that front leg. That's probably the exact opposite of what the textbooks say? Perhaps because the textbooks are for guys who hit the ball well with an in to out club path struggle taming a hook?? For some reason ANY conscious weight transfer to my back foot exacerbates everything and stops me getting through the ball and I stand up off the ball. When I'm trying to hit a cut I don't consciously hold weight forward (but I make sure I don't transfer back) and it works. I have very bad hips, knees, shoulders from decades of (falling off) motorbikes and (falling off) surfboards so I can only do what I can do       I have found this "weight" approach works better for me than "try to swing in to out" using any method as I then lose impact angle and distance. With say an 8-iron I will lose 20m from my best shot even if it's a +2 path, because I just cannot get everything to work together.   I don't know if any of that helps - I am certainly a trial and error guy and not a coach with any kind of theory to back up my ponderings - but I am learning what works for me by making weight my number one swing thought.
