Had a great round this weekend guys, and just had to tell you all about it.

A buddy of mine and myself played 18 at The Phoenix Golf Links in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend.

My largest goal of the year was achieved - I broke 100! Might seem funny to some, but coming from an absolute hack last year to under 100 this year is really big to me. Had 101, 103s, etc. on semi-difficult courses before, but never broke the century mark.

I shot 49-49 which also met my other big goal - break 50 on nine - and I did it twice!

On the par 5 #8, I also had my second birdie ever! Great drive, great 3-wood, and ran my 7-iron up to 4-feet and sank the putt. Was great to put a circle on the scorecard!

My buddy also had an eagle for the second weekend in a row. Long par 4, killed his drive, and sank his 7-iron from 185 yards out. Bounce, bounce, bounce, DUNK! Was awesome to witness. We've both had chip-ins before, but from 185 out it was crazy!

My index also just dropped to 29.2 which was another goal of mine to break 30!

Just had to gleam for a bit guys, thanks!!

It's a great feeling to set goals and meet them. I'm around your level and finally shot my best round this past Monday of 93. That was with a 44 on the front nine, I would have done great if I hadn't got nervous with 2 groups backed up behind me when I started the back nine, shot an 8 on the first hole.

Just on a sidenote, because it may help you. This record round was my first time playing with a GPS. I use a free app for my Blackberry phone called BBGPS Golf, which also records your distances for each club and averages them out. Previously I went out to a par 3 and hit every iron possible to get some distances stored for my real round. It worked amazing. It was so nice seeing a distance for my drives, and knowing with confidence which iron to grab.

Thanks for the tip on the app...downloading now!

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
