This year I decided I wanted to start playing golf more seriously. I broke 100 for the first time in April. I use oob to track my handicap and it currently stands at 16. I took a video of my swings (driver, PW) in hopes of finding areas to focus on. I apologize for poor quality as my camera's video option is old school. Thank you in advance for your comments.

I've had a lot of lessons with video analysis lately so I 'll throw in my 2 cents.

From the front view it looks like your stance is a little too wide for the PW, as it appears your feet are more than shoulder-width apart. For irons I thought the stance was supposed to be around shoulder-width.

Your knees seem too flexed in your address with both clubs You probably need more hip-bend and less knee flex. Ideally the middle of your shoulders should be over your toes. From your stance the toe of the club appears to point up too much.

I think your hips and shoulders turn too much in the backswing, but it doesn't seem to be hurting your ability to keep the club on plane, but wonder if that will affect weight distribution on the backswing and downswing transition. Perhaps you are hyper-flexible? As long as your starting the swing with your lower body then you may not deal with over-the-top issues.

Do you hook shots often? Because your club is pointing mostly to the right at the top of the backswing I wonder if that can lead to hooked shots.

What's really great about your swing is that you keep your head level and spine-tilt somewhat consistent, despite the big hip and shoulder turn. Also your impact position and follow through look really good.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

Looks solid right now. But it's a practice swing. It won't tell you much.

Go to the range and set it up dude, then we could all really help you out...

Thanks for the comments so far.

1. I've had several people tell me before that I bend my legs too much and stand too upright. I believe I developed the upright stance from hearing 'a big hip and shoulder turn is ideal'. Is something bad with being so upright? I've tried bending at the waist more and it feels very uncomfortable.

2. I'll use the term miss lightly. What I consider a good result is probably a big miss for most of yall. My most common miss is: driver and long irons - block it out straight right with no side spin short irons - misses seem to be mostly distance related--I am definitely most confident standing over my PW-8 iron. Notice I said "Most Common" because I can miss any way you want for sure. My lowest score yet is 83 but I can also shoot a 95 easily.

3. Maybe I can get to the range tomorrow and get some real video.

It looks like you grip your club while holding it out. I'd recommend gripping it with the club on the ground.

Also, the Chicago Bears suck.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
