I have a 2 year old Nike SUMO (S) that's a bit too stiff for me and it's costing me too much yardage. After taking some lessons I feel my swing is consistent enough that I should get fitted but my question is should I get fitted to my existing driver or is a driver fitting about every facet such that I should be getting a new driver?

There's about 40-50 rounds on the driver plus a similar number of buckets on it. It still feels great to hit (other than a slightly too stiff shaft) but I suspect it's getting close to its end of life and that a new (fitted) driver would be the best bet.

Thoughts? Thanks.

You could just get it reshafted with a regular flex (assuming you want to do do in stiffness of flex, not up to x-flex). 2 year old driver really isn't THAT old.

At the beginning of the year the shaft on my 907 D2 broke (not in anger!) and when I went to go get it reshafted I was told that I could check around and get another D2 with the shaft I was looking for less than the cost of the shaft and labor. Turned out it was about the same but check out whatever used clubs shops around where you live and see if your driver with the shaft you want is out there.

While I would not normally say to get a new club, in this case at this time it might be cheaper to buy new. Go someplace where you can get fitted for driver and shaft together - not just one head with a different shaft - you want to be fitted for the two components together as not all heads and shafts work together exactly the same (make sure to pay attention to head loft as well). Prices have come down so much on new drivers that it will probably not be much more and might be cheaper to buy new, plus if you can get fit properly you can be more secure in that you got the right fit for you.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
