I realise this has nothing to due with Golf, I just needed to Vent, My Son Is in his final year of collage (Purdue), state school here in Indiana. Well myself and my wife are both High school Grads and that was as far as we went, and both have jobs, decent jobs nothing your going to get rich at, but able to keep a roof over are heads and so on. But we both wanted our Son to go to Collage. Well we have always filled out the Fasta papers and we both make to much for any help. My son has always gotten a Student Loan, well this year his final year and unable to get a Loan. We recived are letter today saying that the loans were being reveiwed, and felt that they were stoping Student loans. Ya well i bet if we were on food stamps and did'nt owne are Home you could get all the help you needed. I'll tell you this contry has turned my stomach. I called the loan department and talked to a ladie that was as nice as pie, and i relise its not her fault. But i started to vent to her and thought to myself, why be a Buthead to her. So i hung up and hit the wall, and now i think i my have broke my Hand. I kept telling myself why are they doing this to my Son, His last year of school.... Iam sorry to Bore you with this stuff, i just had to vent to someone, and my congressman and State Rep is out probably on a 3 month Vacation, and when he gets back will probably give himslf a raise?which i have'nt had in 9 years, And then they wounder why folks go POSTAL. maybe tomorrow will be better. I just wanted a better life for my son to futher his Education which his mother and i never had, and now that seem to fading. 1 more year to go? just one......

That's interesting they would cut them off...

How many years has he been attending school? I know they generally only give loans for 6 years. If he's over that, this could be a reason.

Did you claim him as a dependent? This can affect the process. But typically, middle class people shouldn't be too affected by this. If he files independently then he would probably most definitely qualify. It's what I did and because I was making little money during college I actually qualified for quite a few grants.

Worst case scenario: Hew won't get any loans but you want him to finish (and he should!). You can get a loan yourself. You mentioned you own your home. Get a home equity loan. This isn't the most ideal solution by any means, but it's a way out. It will get him through school.

Don't take your anger out on other people, especially poor people though. I mean, if you were on food stamps and such, you probably would get help because you would need it the most. Think about that though, would you want to be on foodstamps? Be grateful you're not.

Lastly, life isn't fair and I sympathize with you. The system sort of sucks. I had a friend whose parents got divorced right before she went to college and her dad was pretty well to do. She claimed her mother as the guardian and her mother wasn't making much and she basically got a free ride. Meanwhile, my parents were together and didn't make as much as her dad but I had to pay my way (with loans of course). There are holes in the system, but whatever. There are also ways out.

Good luck and I hope he can make it through. I really recommend looking into getting a private loan to fund this last year. My sister did that for a year actually. Call your bank today and see what they have for student loans. You can do this, trust me!

if it make syou feel any better... it happens all over the world

my mom recently went back to school to try and pursue a dream of being a high school teacher. My mom supports her self as best she can being a subsititue teacher in high school currently while doing most of her coursework online or working out deals with teachers to miss classes so she can still work ... Well they pulled the plug on her financial aid recently right before her last semester before she graduates with her teachers lisence ... she's incredibly depressed and has no idea what she's going to do. I support my girlfriend currently while she's in business school so i have no money at all to help her. I feel helpless:x

there's plenty of us out here ;( that's the sad part

I feel for your Mom, so close, hope things work out for her, as i hope for my son as well. Iam picking up a 2nd job, his monthy payment is 1000 dollars a month. I know its going to be tough, and iam going to have to budget alot better now, but iam not letting quit. Again I wish your Mother the Best?

I'm curious if you've considered a private loan? If you own your home outright you have a lot of equity you can borrow against. this will make it a lot easier than paying $1000.00 a month.

Ask you banks if they can help...
