I'm having what I believe to be a rather odd problem and I wonder if anyone can offer any advise.

I play golf almost exclusively in the very early morning 5:30 to 6:00 am tee times. As a result I obviously play in a lot of wet conditions. My problem is as follows.

I have been having a hard time hitting my woods in wet conditions. I'll hit them fat and I'll hit them thin. Not too much consistency at all. My irons and hybrids are fine... solid contact and on line. I'm not a long hitter so I hate to not use a wood at all although there have been times where I've just not bothered with them because it was getting too frustrating.

The weird thing is on those rare days where I get out in dry conditions, I'm pounding my woods true and straight and consistently while I struggle greatly with my irons and with my hybrids also (although less so). How can this be? It's driving me crazy and as I lose confidence the problem of course becomes even moreso. The problem appears to be mostly hitting the ball thin and struggling to get it airbourne.

Can anyone offer any advise? I can live without using woods in the wet conditions but I can't live with inconsistency with my irons in dry conditions. Is it ball position? Confidence? Bounce perhaps? I game King Cobra S9 irons.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
