I wouldn't buy anything GM, or Chrysler. Why reward them for running a terrible business.

I'd buy a ford if I were going to buy an American car, but the only thing I'd buy thats American is a truck. Diesel specifically, You can make those really fast :) My dads F-250 gets about 24mpg highway, and will smoke most cars (its got some work done on it, thanks to yours truly)

I was a mechanic years ago, I'll tell you that Lexus is by far the best fit and finish of any sub 60k luxury car. I have a lot of friends with BMW's they are all junk, all this little stuff will just fall off, door handles, molding, etc. A good friend of mine has an 08 M3, great car if you want to turn a lot, fast enough in a straight line, but expensive as hell to fix.

The new Benz are really nice, if you want and badass car. C63 AMG about 57k, great looks, handling and performance. Hard to beat.

Or get a used Porsche 911, you can find them about 50k. Reliable and fast and sexy, but your golf clubs will have to ride shotgun :)

Lancers Evo's are meh, unless you want to dump a couple thousand in to mods, same thing with WRX, but then reliability and warranty goes *poof* if you do get one of these might as well start ordering parts now. Downpipe, exhaust, intake, front mount intercooler, electronic boost controller and gauge, and some suspension, probably some better tires.

Lucky you.

I was going to get a jetta, or MAZDA 6, and i was told hell no by the mechanic. mazda's are nice, but always in the shop. Jetta's are expensive to fix. Get a Roush 427R, or just a GT with a roush supercharher kit. Doesn't void the warranty, and you gain 135hp and 100 ft. lb. of torque. The same mechanic said that the GT's are really reliable, and like the others said, buy a 2008.

How about a Ferrari 458 Italia?

His budget is ~ $25K; funny how some of the suggestions are way off the mark.

My $0.02 - look at a fully loaded Nissan Altima - you could get 250,000 miles out it easy, at least that's what the mechanics say.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I would love to get a Porche or Mercedes or BMW or even a Lancer Evo but all of these are a little out of my price range. 25k is kind of my upper limit but i could go a little higher if need be. Definantly nothing over 30k.

Thanks again

Out of those you've listed, get the 2010 Ford Mustang GT Premium Coupe . Or you could get a 2007 BMW 3 series for the same price.

Both would be great. The BMW would be sick , not pompous or douchebaggy.

I'm telling you, get an 08 GT California edition, the roush supercharger kit, and you'll have one of the faster cars on the street, and it will sound like a true V8.

Really, if you're looking at a $30,000 limit, why the hell are you looking at camaros and sky's and mustangs. I'd love to have a muscle sports car, (huge muscle fan), but just think about the insurance on a rwd car for someone your age. It'll probably be around 4,000 for 6 months, it's absolutely rediculous. Now, my parents just bought me my first car after graduation and I convinced my mom a civic si is safe enough haha. I'm big on reliability and my previous intrepid (great car), crapped out all at once, that's just the american production strategy. Plus, I really couldn't live with a Mustang or Camaro without the v8 under the hood, takes away the pleasure. Truthfully, for a daily driver, you should be looking at a v6 for the extra hp just due to the practicality. I looked at the new accord coupe for a good long time, was just out of my price range. Anyways, I'm extremely pleased with the Honda Civic Si and it runs a k20z3 motor under it and I plan on it running for a long time.

Im looking to get a new car next summer. My parents are paying for half of it (up to 25k) as a early graduation present. I want a good looking, good handling, somewhat fast, reliable car. Im not overly concerned with mpg or green/eco friendlyness. My parents said they would rather me get a new car because they said they dont want to spend money on a car thats about break down. So right now Im looking at a Charger, Camaro, Mustang, Saturn Sky and a Lancer. Any suggestions? Thanks

Given your budget you would be in a V6 in the Camaro which isn't a bad idea, if this is your first car. Performance is still good. Same with the Mustang V6 , and you might be able to find an 08 or 09 Mustang GT in that price range. Don't be afraid of a leftover if they are going to work on the price for you. I don't know much about the Lancer. The Sky is a great 2nd carbut will be cramped as a primary vehicle in my opinion.

I believe that you should also consider the Cobalt SS and Subaru Impreza. Sept/Oct is typically the time where you will find the best deals. Good luck and keep the rubber side down!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Sorry I thought you meant they would cover 25K of it. I miss read.

Nissan makes some quality cars, and they are not slouches. Evo/WRX STi wouldnt be a bad choice at that price range if you want "fast". Their both high on the maintenance if you really drive them. the new Taurus SHO looks like its going to be sweet but not with a pricetag of close to 40k.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
