After having issues with back problems and the inflexibility that goes with it, I have decided to give yoga a try. My questions is for those of you using it, how many times a week do you do it and how long is each session. I found a 23 min workout video online that I just tried. I have to say that it kicked my butt a little and I had to stop for a few minutes half way through. However, now that it has been about an hour, I feel really good. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

been doing yoga for about 5 years now. i'm not sure your physical condition, but i was already an athlete when i started it in my early 20's. i absolutely love yoga, great for both physical and mental strength, and perfect for increasing flexibility. not knowing your age or physical capabilities, i'd suggest going to half price books and find a yoga for golfer's book and try some routines for an hour or so 3 times a week. At my peak, I was in a class for an hour 4 days a week in a master's class, couldn't dream of doing that at the moment. But i try to do one of my own routines at home once or twice a week. But a class is lots of fun if you can find one for a reasonable price. You've got lots of support and a teacher to show you the proper shape of the positions so you don't hurt yourself.

I am 41 and my physical conditioning has been improving over the last year. I played golf and baseball since I was a kid, but didn't do much of either during my 30's. Got the golf bug again about a year ago and started conditioning with nightly stretching, some weights and walking 4-5 miles 3-4 days a week. The back has been an issue over the last couple of years. My thought is to try this 30-45 min routine 3 days a week to start and go from there. I may look for a class also.

I read a few articles about major college sports programs in various physical sports who did yoga. Heard the benefits were unreal. I would argue that the mental aspect of things are more beneficial than the physical ones. True meditation and reaching that "zone" is a really powerful thing. Good luck.

I am a PGA Professional who has been doing different forms of Yoga for about 5 years. I am 53 years old and find it invaluable in keeping my golf flexibilty. I have noticed that if I skip a few days, not only does my golf game suffer but my general physical well being suffers.

Roger Fredericks, Katherine Roberts and the YogaX in P90X by Tony Horton are threee that I recommend highly.

    • I love Rancho Park too!  I don't get out there much due to the 405 issues (Im in Santa Clarita) but I do try and get out there every now and then...last time out was in January where I eagled 17 (left green) with a holed 145 yard third shot ! Rancho is a great course! And at 24 bucks weekday with the city card, an absolute steal!
    • I have played PGA West, at least one or two courses in there, but I am not sure if I've played any of the courses used to host the Hope. I played a course that I think both isn't PGA West and is host to the Hope a few years ago, possibly at a TST outing, but I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right one. I have played Rancho Park plenty of times (exactly half of my sub-80 rounds were there!) and Wilson/Harding.  Rancho Park might be my favorite golf course among those I've played more than a half dozen times.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to play TPC Scottsdale, maybe this August or September, and at some point I think there was a PGA Tour event in Las Vegas, I should get up there and play those course(s).
