In two years' time, the Solheim Cup will be played in Ireland, a short distance outside Dublin. Killeen Castle is the second Jack Nicklaus masterpiece in Ireland (after Mount Juliet) and it opened in April/May of this year.

I find it interesting that a course that was still being constructed could 'win' the right to host the Solheim Cup, but what do I know! It's a great looking course and will - probably - be the last course to be built in Ireland for some time to come - especially as other courses are closing.

If you want to know what it looks like, here are photos of Killeen Castle from a week ago

Great photos. Looks like alot of fun. I didn't know there was courses closing over sees so much. Here in the states courses are struggling but not closing (at least where I live).

The Solheim Cup will be great advertising for the newly constructed course. No doubt, Mr. Nicklaus has plenty of political power.

We've lost a few, but the major casualty was Luttrellstown Castle just outside Dublin. A big, fancy parkland course that closes at the end of the year.

Some others have gone into receivership: Paul McGinley's first course, Macreddin, is the best one, but there will be more casualties. Overall we have too many courses. Per capita we have the second highest number of courses in the world (New Zealand has the most). The Links courses are mostly unaffected, which golfers in the US will be delighted to hear I'm sure.
