Looking for the best driver for a high handicapper? Kind of looking at a TM r7 limited and a TM r9 460. I know I should hit all I can but where I live it is a long drive just to look-Maybe 75 mi. So I will take a gamble on what I can buy on line. What do you all think?
Thanks Jack

Its really the matter of preference and your swing. You just need to try out some drivers out there.

Personally i like my r9 420cc driver. Although i have some complaints for it, it still performs fairly well for me.

I suggest checking out the burners, g10/g15, and FT-9. Good luck!

What kind of swing speed? If your drives are around 200-210 (SS would be 80-85) I would suggest the Taylormade 09 burner 10.5* R-Flex.

I had an R9 460. I did not find it overly forgiving and also found a loss of distance. I believe it is more suited to higher swing speeds. jmo

hello, i know this is WAY off topic, but first, where are the best bang for your buck golf schools like where i can get a career and who have good career placement,

and do you think its "unrealistic" to go for such a career if i have only been playing for bout 2 years, i am asking the opinion because everytime i mention it, my father says i live in a "fantasy land" but to be honest. I love the game and wouldnt want anything different. im still in high school and trying to figure out what i really want to do with my life.

your honest opinions will be greatly appreciated thanks,

Travis Reis.

And to input my opinion on your question about the driver. First you should start with a swing speed and shape of a swing. Faster swing speed=Stiff Shaft Slower=Regular Shaft.

i personally like the r7 superquad with stiff fuji shaft. it hits like a dream haha

You should probably put a post in golf talk if you want to discuss this. I will say however that your dad is right. I don't want to say it is impossible but well, it's impossible.

There are other jobs in the golf industry though if you love it that much. My advice to you is to think about business courses, accounting courses, sports administration, etc. In that way you'll be working to a much more realistic goal that can open all kinds of doors for you, in or out of the golf industry.

I've been on the titleist bandwagon for a few years now, 983,905,909. Finally got a tour burner with a real diamana and it is the most forgiving combo I have ever had. Truly happy. Maybe it's just the shaft but maybe both. :). Don't give up your search fir the perfect club. Ever :)

Tour Burner 9.5 w real Diamana 63 S
906f4 15.5 Proforce V2 S
909H 19 Diamana S
755 4-PW
Vokey 50/56/60Yes! NatalieBushnell Medalist w/ PinseekerI'll play just about any ball

do try the titleist 907 D2 ... it is much more forgiving.. although not as long as the tour burner.. my fathers' burner gave me about 315 yards wheras the titleist was about 290 yards but i hit the fairway a lot more often with the titleist abd i think with some more practice i can reach that distance as well

07 Burner regular flex. (my dads-doing wonders with it) :D
supersteel burner steel shaft strong 3 wood
R7 draw 5 wood
Rapture 4-pw uw. Red dot. <3

I was in the same boat, I needed a driver and wanted to finally get somewhat close to new technology. Callaway pre-owned outlet had one of their X460s with a regular flex graphite shaft really cheap, so I bought it without ever hitting one. Usually, I over analyze my clubs but in this case I figured I could trade it for what I paid, so I pulled the trigger on the deal.

Turned out to be the best driver I've ever owned and at a great price. I hit the Diablo a little better but the difference in price wasn't worth the very small gain in performance.

My old driver was a Callaway Warbird, to tell you how long it's been since I put a different driver in my bag. As it worked out, using the Warbird for all those years helped my swing since I had to hit that relatively small sweet spot.

Now, with the X460 I can swing for the fences and hit it on average between 235-250. Not huge by many standards, but for someone coming off four major surgeries, including two brain surgeries and a spinal cord surgery, in the last few years, it's a miracle.

Which is really a long way to say that with today's technology, it's hard to go wrong. Plus, if you miss on your first purchase, you can usually still trade it for fair value on something else.

In my Callaway Warbird X stand bag:

Callaway FT-5 , regular flex

I think most people offered what was there favorite driver. You are a high handicapper you need forgiveness,

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.
