Went and played 18 holes this morning...nothing better then getting up before the sun is shining and playing at 6:07.

Played pretty poorly on the front 9, worse then what my score really indicated. I wasnt getting much distance off the tee or in the fairway and just attributed it to the wet fairways.

My normal golf swing has a "trigger", this is a slight head cock to the right and using looking at the ball with my left eye, similar to what Jack does.

I also noticed that one of my playing companions was doing this, but before he did the "headcock" he gave the shaft a little forward press. I figured this must be something that helps his swing and since he was a better golfer then me and gave it a try.

First, a slight forward press...maybe an inch with the butt end of the club towards the targer, then the headcock and wow. I was actually hitting it with a better trajectory and a little farther then normal.

Not sure if it was just mental, but hell...it helped me on the back nine with my drives.

Anyone else do something like this?

Usually the head cock and forward press are used as a timing mechanism to get the swing going the same every time. I really don't know if, by doing this, you can mess up your swing.

I do a 1/2" press with my putter to promote a smooth tempo and the slightest press with all other clubs. I can see by doing this you could possibly close your club face more at impact.

i have a forward press trigger to my swing now. but i'm not all that good a golfer. I only do it because i lift the club back with my right hand a lot. so the forward press lets me lift the club better than conventionally dragging it backwards.

this is something i'm trying to change with a anew swing though, to get rid of a golf elbow problem. My dad who's a pro in Malaysia has played with a slight forward press trigger almost all his life. Maybe that's where i got it from.

I think you mean you are rotating your head a little to the right, not actually cocking it sideways?
