I recently purchased a new driver (TM Burner 09, 10.5 loft, standard factory shaft) and I'm wondering what to do next after playing 4-5 rounds with it and having seen my stats drop. I've easily dropped 50% in my fairway stats.

I have been hitting the old driver (TM Burner 07, 10.5 loft, Graffaloy Pro Launch Blue) in the fairway consistently with a slight draw for the past two seasons.

The only difference in the two clubs is the shaft. The sales staff told me the new one is an inch longer and I took that into consideration with my stance, but I'm just not hitting it the same as my old driver.

Maybe I'm answering my own questions here, but I'm looking for some thought. Should I continue to use the old Burner and sell/trade the new one? Or get a new or switch the shaft on the new Burner? When I connect with the new one I do seem to hit it a tad farther, but that's probably the extra length of the shaft. I'd rather be straight and short.

Sorry for the long first post, and thanks in advance.

That one inch makes a world of difference. So if you opt for a new shaft, will you be going to an inch smaller or staying the same? Is four to five rounds a good sampling and are the grips the same? It just opens more questions than you think.

I find it takes me a bit to adjust to new equipment and I give it while before I start to change things. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. And yes, the grip is the same. I had them put that one at the store.

I was thinking of switching the Graffaloy shaft to the new Burner head.

Okay, I thought you would be putting a new Graffaloy shaft on. That way you could do a comparison or at least have a fall back if you are not happy with the new driver.

Those Burner shafts are light and have a high torque number. Go with a new Graffaloy. I'm thinking of putting a Harrison saga or GD YS-6 in my Burner.

There are two basic things that haven't remained constant since your driver swap (you are not switching from a square head, so I am leaving the head out of the equation). 1) shaft length 2) shaft weight.
Both of those things have HUGE impacts on the end result.
Now is the time to tinker with different shaft specs (weight, length, kick point, torque, flex.) Have fun with it.

When fitted for the Pro Launch shaft 2 years ago, I was told it's high launch angle was perfect for my swing combined with the higher loft of the driver.

Also, thanks for all the quick replies.

I'm also curious what they were thinking when they put in the 46 inch shaft.... seriously ? I would definately reccomend a regular size shaft, heck I might even switch over to a 43 inch one for even more control.

My opinion stick with what feels good. Shafts are nuts. I just went from a club that was 10.5 degree to one that is 9 degrees and I am hitting it a lot higher now because of the shaft specs. All in the shafts.

The one guy mentioned weight, thats something to consider as well. Depending on the graff blue's weight it was probably heavier which typically gives you more control.

good luck

1st- I never heard a weight comparison of both shafts unless I missed it and 2 chicks dig the long ball. The longer shaft is a marketing thing geared toward more distance and C don't pay any attention to the torque number.

Chicks dig the long ball? Clearly you are part of the 300+ club and get loads of ass from all the chicks out on the golf course....

Try cutting down the shaft first an inch. The shaft in the stock burner isn't that bad, even with the higher torque numbers. I can hit my friends '09 burner stiff 280+ without any less accuracy than my Ping with a X-flex low torque shaft. If the grip is new, they can usually save it when you cut the shaft down. 1 inch does make a big difference.

I had my driver cut down .5" which I thought wouldn't be noticeable, but it definitely was.

I just have 2 questions for you out of curiosity...

1) you dropped 50% in FW hit... so from maybe 80% to 30%? 2) why did you switch drivers to begin with... you were hitting well over 50% of fairways. Was it a distance issue?

That's a bummer, but not surprising. What is the new Burner shaft, 47"? And the average pro driver is 44.5"? My new DVS arrives in the mail Thursday, and I'm already planning to have it installed at 44" so I can keep everything in the short grass.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
