Searching for a new ball to game...don't be scared of the "Pro" in ProV1.

Let me assure you that I'm just your average everday hacker. There is no part of my game that stands out as spectacular....except maybe my ability to scramble out of trouble. Perhaps it's because I have so much experience extracting myself from awful places.

That being said, I've always gamed the "mid" level balls and never really considered the top shelf stuff.

I sort of chucked to myself when I played some with my father this summer and saw in his golf closet several dozen boxes of ProV1 balls. Dad is in his early 60's and has a very smooth transition and hits a nice draw with every stick. I'd estimate his swing speed at 85-90mph....smooth and controlled. What's he doing hitting these pro-type balls? Wasting money was my first thought.

I've always marvelled at my father's tempo. His short game is nasty. He does things from 100yds in that I yearn to do....consitently.

Anyway...I thoroughly enjoyed our golf and again loved watching him put on his short game clinic every round.

Another thing is that he almost never looses a ball.

I had a few gift certs that I bought 2 dozen ProV-1's with....figured I'd give 'em a try and then go back to my "mid" level balls.

I honestly can't see ever switching back. As an average Joe hacker, these balls have helped me with every aspect of my game. As I mentioned already, I find myself in trouble a good bit. These gems help me out of it. They respond to intentional hooks and slices very well.

Driver distance is solid, nothing lost here with my average speed swings.

Trajectory is consistent.

Durability is outstanding...especially on the 2009 version.

They really will make your short game look soooooo much better. The ball is amazing from 100yd in. I've never been more confident with any ball. You can flight it in low with authority, if needed, and know that it's gonna bite.

I've found the "practice" version to be a great value, too. It brings the price back down to my normal "mid" ball range. I can afford to loose on or two per round and not wince to bad at the thought.

I know that there are tons of discusions about this subject....just thought I'd the experiences of this average hacker.

Don't let the "Pro" scare you off. This ball can work for anyone...I truly believe this now.

Oh yeah...one other thing....it may not do a bleeping thing for your score, but it is loads of fun to watch your wedge shots hit and pull back a few feet. I giggle like a kid when I do this. I know it serves no practical purpose unless you are past the flag and zip it back....but it's fun. Hit a PW yesterday from under a branch...100yds....uphill.....past the flag.....ziiiiippppppp to three feet......only birdie made by anyone in the group for the round. They were loving the spin back. Fun stuff indeed......my game needed more fun.

The pro doesn't scare me a bit, but the $$$$$$ does. I will happily play my Maxfli Fire Tours which cost me $1.00 a ball, and still have nice teeth.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
