Okay I'm fed with buying clubs with shafts that arnt right for me. the only club shafts ive ever been happy with are on my burner irons. For my woods and driver I need to find a reliable place where i can hit all shafts from a-z and get a guy who knows what hes talking about to fit one exactly for me that really and truly fits my golf swing ball flight and everything. Im sick of being told every other time i need stiff, regular, stiff, regular, high launch, low launch, this, that, that, this, ITS DIFFERENT EVERYTIME! no matter where i go im told i need different things. NEED HELP NOW! so i can get it right and stop wasting my time and money! anybody anything? I have a G15 with a Serrano Aldila S-flex shaft (slice the piss out of it). and in my Cobra Speed LD 3 wood I have a R-flex Tour AD YS fairway by: Graphite Design (Hit it EVERYWHERE!) And in my cobra S9-1 5 wood an Aldila DVS-HL 55-R flex (hit it okay but with a slice sometimes). HELP!

shafts aren't magic or anything... go hit one on a launch monitor or trackman if possible... find one with good numbers... hit it outside and watch the ballflight... if it is good, then buy it... if not move on to the next.

OR

Don't even worry about the numbers... just find a place with a range and hit them until you find one that doesn't balloon (you will see this) and doesn't fly too low, feel to stiff, or too whippy... and if you hit it well, buy it.

I don't understand what the problem is... don't buy clubs you haven't hit outside... the guy at Golf Galaxy or Dick's will say anything to make a sale... it is YOUR eyes and YOUR hands that should determine if a club fits... only exception is if you really don't know anything, then you should go to an actual clubfitter, NOT Edwin Watts, Galaxy or other big box.

Sorry I dont know this but can i demo shafts with my driver head or would i just have to hit other drivers with the shaft? and if i start hitting one well it could be the head of the different driver along with the shaft right? So should i just not worry about that possibility or can they actually switch out shafts to my driver head? Thanks alot I appreciate it, and best wishes for you and your family with the arrival of your daughter.

Two things you need to decide:

1) What type of ball flight are you looking for? High? Low? Mid? Once you decide this, you can then narrow your search of shafts by eliminating almost half of what's out there.

2) How heavy of a shaft do you want? 60 grams? 70 grams? 80 grams? Just like ball flight, once you decide that what weight shaft, the rest comes easy.

I see that you are located in North Carolina. Find out how close the Wishon company is to you. They have some of the best fitters, available. Set up an appointment and get fitted.

Like I said, though, you determine what goes in your bag. Yes, there are tons of shaft options but weight and trajectory are two of the easiest to figure out and that decision is ultimately yours. Things like flex and torque are decided by how you swing and load the club. For that, you'll need some help and therefore, find a good fitter.

Demoing many shafts won't be easy as there are so many to try. Club makers only have X amount that they put in their drivers. As for trying shafts in your driver I don't think you'll be able to find a placethat will let you do that. I get a good shaft and learn to hit it.

But none of my shafts are by any means really "bad shafts" (especially the driver and 5 wood) but i just dont like any of them. i want one that im confident in and comfortable with not just get the stock one (which isnt for me in the first place-- my fault though) and learn how to hit it.....

Weight is really subjective. I have three drivers all with the same brand shaft, ACCRA and all three are different weights. The one common factor is that all are mid launch shafts and the CPM (the exact flex of a shaft) are all the same.

The reason I have a disparity in shaft weights depends on how I'm feeling. If I'm loose and have been playing a ton, I'll use the heavier shaft as I'll tend to go after it. If I have not been playing much, I'll go to the lighter shaft. This will serve as a reminder to go a little slower and pause at the top. I tend to have a bit of a better rhythm with a lighter shaft and a few miles an hour more of clubhead speed. A shaft that I would recommend, other than anything by ACCRA, is the Aldila Voodoo series. Specifically, the Aldila Voodoo SVS6. This is a 65 gram shaft with a mid launch angle. It's a really nice shaft and may be a good place to start your search.

okay thanks that gives me an idea of where to start. What is the standard shaft weight in stiff or regular shafts usually?

65 grams was a pretty standard weight for shafts... but lately companies like TM have been putting really light shafts in drivers, and longer shafts. Personally I prefer at least 65 grams... and something with a stiff tip...

Like others have said, it is all preference.... However, it is usually the case that heavier shafts = less distance and more control while lighter shafts = less control and more distance. I doubt as to whether you will find a place to swap out shafts in YOUR driver for free... BUT, you might find someplace with a fitting cart where you can try several shafts in different heads, or that have several demo models made up.

Okay thanks so I should just go and hit all variations of shafts I can with a driver that's close to mine. But what about shafts that don't come stock on some clubs. If I really wana try EVERYTHING how would I go about trying all variations and brands and models and weights and flex? Thanks

If you truly feel the need to try "everything', find a good pro, explain what you want, and be prepared to spend several hundred dollars for the time required.

Sorry Golfdogg, you keep asking questions that are next to impossable for any of us to answer for you. As for trying a lot of shafts be prepaired to spend some $$$. If your going to try shafts in several heads that won't really be much help to you.

Where did you buy your G15? Why didn't you get fit for it? Ping has several options available for shafts. I am sure one of them would fit you well. Sound like more of a swing problem than a shaft problem.

Hi - you might want to find a Henry-Griffits fitter in your area. They have many shaft and head combinations that can be switched on the spot at a range near you. Goto their website for more info. They have the best fitting system i've seen in many many years. You won't be disappointed and you may even accomplish something. Good luck!

Find a Golfsmith near you. They have various fitting carts where you can switch heads and shafts. More importantly, you can hit different lofted head combinations in search for the ideal combo.

Too bad you're not in New York. There is a fitter near me that has a room full of almost every shaft imagineable. I was there to re-shaft some wedges and left almost three hours, later.

Ouch! The VooDoo is meant to be good but be prepared to pay

. It's not a cheap shaft. I'd second the vote for ACCRA - excellent; very smooth feeling and excellent manufacturing standards. Watch out which ACCRA line you're tempted by though, some of them are . As for weight, go for something between 60g (most people are more than fine with ~65g) and 80g. Don't even consider less than 60g (silly shaft idea IMO as almost impossible to control) and unless you're Tiger, forget anything over 80g for your driver (you're unlikely to generate the speed necessary). One other thing; do not be tempted to have a driver shafted so it plays any longer than 45". Even the pros have fun trying to control some of the longer kit out there. Do you have any info re. your driver swing speed? Handicap? If you want a very good shaft with exceptional characteristics, decent price and suits a wide range of standards, try Graphite Design. Their YS-6+ is an awesome shaft for the money. Beautiful feeling shaft too. If you want a slightly heavier shaft, try the YS-7+. If you have more $$$, you might want to look at the YSQ65 (or 75) shafts (ignore the YSQst unless you want a lower launch). I can't recommend their shafts enough - my backup driver has a YSQ75, stiff flex shaft in it. Their shafts tend to play a bit soft-to-flex cf. other manufacturers i.e. their stiff flex often feels a little softer than, say, a typical Aldila stiff.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
