I was at the local driving range this morning.
I was trying out a few hybrids,I was hitting them off the deck using the mat.
I was slicing everything so bad I just wanted to give up and go home, about 20 in a row just took this awful slice.
Anyway I decided to go down to the grass area and try some down there...
Everything I hit went straight as a arrow!
Is it possible the mat had something to do with slicing the ball? it was very well worn down so maybe it was turning the club on impact?

we have two ranges that are close - the one right by my house is a full service practice center. It has grass tee boxes and is very nice. The other is only matts, but November 1st through may 1st, it is under a dome, so it is year round accessable. HOwever, the matts that they use are nice and thick, and the material they use does something that you can see the impact of the club (almost as if you can see the divot)

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I had a similar experience, I went to a crappy range and couldn't hit a thing. It was like hitting off a pool table.

The range I normally go to has artificial blades of grass that the club can dig down into. It isn't perfect but it doesn't hamper or enhance my swing the way a mat can. They also have a grass range but the turf is so poor it isn't worth it.

In the blue Colts bag:

Driver - FT-5 10°
Hybrids - 4DX 15.5°, 20°
Irons/Wedges - CI-7 4-GW, SW | "Free" Warrior 60° LWPutter - TiffanyBalls - various

    • Hey Sam, good to see you. 🙂
    • Have you tried hanging?  Find a pull up bar or whatever.  Grab it with both hands and hang without your feet touching the floor.  I had bad issues over last winter and a friend suggested it.  It was like is decompresses everything in my spine and I have been fine ever since.
    • Believe it or Not! I am so excited.  Yesterday, on a hot and windy day, I played a 9 hole course in Claflin. Kansas. 1st 9 = 54 2nd 9 = 43   I am going to try and go back out late this afternoon and play 18 holes at Hays, Kansas.  My 3 hybrid came in yesterday and I am really anxious to try it out.  WooHoo 🥳 🙌 👏  Retired Old Man, Terry

    • Looking forward to reading and contributing to some of the great discussions here. I've "played" for a few years, but very much feel like I'm in the beginner/new to golf stage. I'm wanting to set some attainable goals for this year, and hopefully share some of it here along the way. Thanks for reading!
