What are the rules regarding posting scores for you handicap? I don't have one yet, however now that I'm playing right around 80, I'd like to start really keeping track and use it to motivate myself to consistently get into the 70's.

I was planning on only posting scores where I'm actually trying my best as opposed to being out on exec courses and practicing certain shots. When I'm playing exec courses, I'll often use a shorter club and aim for a particular spot from where I'd like to chip (I've even aimed for bunkers for the practice). I know that this will increase my score and therefore wouldn't post it, however I've heard that you're supposed to post every score?

Normally, I wouldn't care, but I know there are a lot of sticklers out there

Am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks!

Cheers!

I don't keep an official handicap, but I regularly shoot right around 90 if I'm keeping score so I went with 18 just to satisfy the requirements of this board.
I decide before a round if I'm going to keep score. If I do, I play by the rules to the best of my knowledge... count penalties, no mulligans, no gimmes, etc. If I'm not keeping score I practice different shots, play 2-3 balls, pick up putts, improve my lie, and every other sin you can think of. I think the key is to decide before your first tee shot whether you're counting or not.

nothing wrong with a practice round, and not posting it. Only you know if it is a practice round. As far as handicaps know people would be pissed off if you were to post you rounds where you try to get in the bunker as this would raise your handicap and make you a "sandbagger"

People who don't belong to a club or have a public "home course" can use an online handicap posting service. For about $30 a year, you can post scores hole-by-hole online, and get a handicap.

You select the course you played, and the online scorecard for the course and tees you played will pop up. You enter your hole-by-hole scores - and total score - and it generates a round-by-round handicap index which takes into account the course rating and slope rating.

About once a month, the service adjusts your Handicap.

Some services require you to play three or four rounds a year with other golfers who use that service so that you can attest each other's scores (an attempt to prevent sandbagging). Here are two of the services:

    • Great year last year. Who winning this year could be another special story? Brooks? Spieth? Or Aberg? An AM? I dont know if anything could top last year
    • I love Rancho Park too!  I don't get out there much due to the 405 issues (Im in Santa Clarita) but I do try and get out there every now and then...last time out was in January where I eagled 17 (left green) with a holed 145 yard third shot ! Rancho is a great course! And at 24 bucks weekday with the city card, an absolute steal!
    • I have played PGA West, at least one or two courses in there, but I am not sure if I've played any of the courses used to host the Hope. I played a course that I think both isn't PGA West and is host to the Hope a few years ago, possibly at a TST outing, but I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right one. I have played Rancho Park plenty of times (exactly half of my sub-80 rounds were there!) and Wilson/Harding.  Rancho Park might be my favorite golf course among those I've played more than a half dozen times.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to play TPC Scottsdale, maybe this August or September, and at some point I think there was a PGA Tour event in Las Vegas, I should get up there and play those course(s).
