This season of The Big Break looks to be really good as they've put together some very good talent for the show.

I only know what I've seen on the preview show but doesn't this season seem to defeat the purpose of the show; that being the "big break?"

Seems like all of the guys on the show have played on some professional tours or qualified for a PGA Tour event or something. Haven't those guys already had their "break?"

I realize that the Golf Channel is out for ratings but when I think of the show I think of giving very good golfers who may not have the money to drop everything and try to make it on tour their Big Break; not give the same guys already playing professionally more breaks.

Regardless, I think it will be interesting season and I've already set the DVR.

good call. However, you are never going to find someone able to consistently compete on the PGA tour that hasn't played NCAA golf, Canadian Tour, Nationwide, Hooters Tour, whatever.

Big Break seems to vary the "prize" depending on the level of competition---which is good.
Nationwide or Future's Tour event or annual cost for the tour for lesser fields on the BB
and a PGA or LPGA event for the stronger fields on the BB.

Yeah, you're right. You can't take a group of 3 handicaps out and call it the "big break" because the winner wouldn't last two seconds on tour. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have to assume that somewhere out there, there are some great golfers who maybe just have families to support or whatever the reason is, but they are just not able to drop everything to give professional golf a shot. It would be great to see some of those guys competing on the show.

Not only have some of them had their golfing breaks already but a couple have had a life big breaks by being sons of fairly rich people. Makes it hard to root for these guys. Surely there are more people out there that would value this opportunity a little more?

Yeah, Tony and Gipper Finau. I know Tony played in some Nationwide Tour events and qualified for a PGA Tour event if I'm not mistaken.

Rudy Guiliani's kid is a piece of work. There was never anything funnier than him interrupting his father's speeches or making faces behind George Bush's back when he's giving a speech. It's funny that on the preview he's wearing a Duke Golf shirt when he has been booted from the team and filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the school that was bounced from court. By all accounts he's a world class douche-bag. Some of the stories out of Duke were ridiculous. Breaking partner's putters if they weren't playing well, trashing courses, and my personal favorite, chewing up an apple and spitting it in his coach's face. What a sweetheart. Great job there Rudy.

college is ok the individuals shouldn't have played in any type of professional event must have a +2 handicap or better an annual income of less than 50k and give them a month before the show with a place to practice then have the show. personally i think the big break is lame because these people have enough money to do this professionally already. where as, it takes away from those who have the talent but not the resources.
