Yes, I think all golfers go through something similar to what you described. I agree it's a tempo and timing issue that is made much worse by overswinging. I've had people ask me how do I hit it 280-300 and it looks so effortless. Well to me it doesn't feel effortless but it's about applying the stored energy correctly to the ball.

Exactly right. Everyone always talks about Els' and some other pros and how their swing looks effortless but in reality it probably doesn't feel effortless to them. Never ending is right... just wish it wasn't so Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde. I can handle a bad round here and there but going from playing some great golf and thinking you've got it sorted to instantly feeling like I have no control of the ball at all is what really gets to me. How I can hit a draw 90% of the time when I'm swinging well to hitting a push fade 100% of the time when I'm swinging poorly is beyond me (not squaring the face, but still). You'd think my ball flight would stay fairly consistent even if it wasn't going at the target. But, that's golf and why I continue to hit balls at the range I guess. Looking for that one feeling that will bring my swing back into form.
