In the past I have taken winter off golfing. I live in Vancouver Canada, so though we can golf just about year round the winter can be really rainy and cold. This year I have decided I will play atleast once per week in the winter. I love to carry my clubs as I don't find pushing a cart any easier and I find it a bit anoying have to walk around things with a cart rather then just take a straight route.

The one real upside I can see with a cart is being able to have a large umbrella over you in the rain. When you carry it is PIA to use an umbrella as you have to hold it when you walk and it blows over you bag if you place it in the bag while you are hitting. Of course I am concerned that pushing a cart on wet fairways would really suck.

Any advice on this topic would be great as golfsmith as a 20% off sale so I could get a Sun Mountain cart for $160 right now.

You should check with the course you intend to play beforehand, since some courses dont allow push/pull carts in winter weather and only allow to carry.

I stopped using push/pull carts since i made the same expierence as you - carrying is not much different than trolley, esp. on a hilly course. So i either carry, take a electric trolly or just drive. And yes, having an "umberlla holder" is pretty much the only use i can see for an trolley personally.

The course does allow it. I am tempted to to see hwo it goes with out a cart for while. Maybe I will borrow one for a few rounds and see if I can stand it.

I was thinking about this too. i think you should try to borrow one and see how it goes. My reasoning for not buying one is that I'd look like a wimp or something considering usually only old people use the push carts, but I mean that obviously means that they are easier to use and would therefore be the smart option so I'm torn.

The only cart you should use for winter golf has a motor, those plastic sides that mount on the cover and a little gas heater in it...that is a cart!!
