My favorite clip, ever:

Obama loves this. He loves the hands out, waiting on him. As they say, this is why they voted for him.

What a sad state we are in when clowns like this have a say.

My favorite clip, ever:

the problem with our great country is that we treat our elected officials like rock stars. They do what they want, when they want and could give a hoot about their constituants for the most part. We do not hold them accountable. In the interest of full disclosure..I am an independant and these remarks are bi partisan.

the problem with our great country is that the media treats our elected democrats like rock stars, and the people that elect democrat leaders follow in kind.

Fixed that for you.

I'm independent too. But I don't think a case can be made that Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush were ever treated like rock stars. They were despised by the media. We all know Clinton and Obama got/get rock star treatment. - DN

Edit to add: there must be a prohibition around here to post links. Sigh. Well, goto Youtube and search for "Obama Money". It will come up.

No, there's just a prohibition against posting links the wrong way. And Erik just bumped the thread a few hours before yours. A brief search for YouTube on the forums would have brought this up, too. Plus, there's that huge YT tag in the posting area that might have been a clue.

Check this out: http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...hlight=Youtube (there's also a prohibition against posting spam links, but unless you're rick rolling us, I don't think your link would count in this category)

You can't make that case if you don't remember anything between 9/12/2001 and about 2007, when everything the president said was treated as gospel by even the more liberal mainstream outlets.

We all know Clinton and Obama got/get rock star treatment.

Yes, I got to keep hearing about how Clinton destroyed the integrity of the oval office. I heard less about Mick Jagger's sex life than Bill Clinton's. If that's what you mean by rock star treatment. Or his policy proposals being ridiculed, much like Bono's (pretty much rightly) are.

What is interesting about this comment is that it is clear that a monumental event changed things and a situation was created where the media heads concluded that they were in a time where they could lose it all if they kept up their usual shenanigans. Also, I'd argue that the media's fear of a backlash from the citizenry didn't last until 2007.

No monumental event created the cushy relationship that Clinton or Obama have had with the media. The bias is obvious, and I find it difficult to think that anyone would want to try to argue against that position. Anyway, the point of this thread wasn't meant to argue the difference in treatment by the media between left and right sided politicians. The point of this thread is the comedy gold those clowns in the line in Detroit have created by virtue of their total ignorance. Obama wants people to be like this. A totality of the circumstances indicates this. - DN

While a monumental event has yet to happen

during the Obama presidency, both he and Bill Clinton entered office following a sharp economic downturn. That's a pretty big event. But I don't think the terrorist attack is why the media supported Bush. Most of the media types love large, unaccountable government programs. They like them when they work as advertised and they love them when they don't, especially if there are large repercussions as a result, and accordingly, they're going to love any big-government candidate; for example, every president to occupy the office in my lifetime (Reagan onward).
The bias is obvious, and I find it difficult to think that anyone would want to try to argue against that position.

I'm just surprised that someone who claims to be an independent has a partisan confirmation bias. I don't even say that as a bad thing, for the record. It's just something to be aware of.

The point of this thread is the comedy gold those clowns in the line in Detroit have created by virtue of their total ignorance. Obama wants people to be like this. A totality of the circumstances indicates this.

I haven't seen the video, but I'm curious now. What sort of behavior does Obama want from people that Bush didn't want?

And here I was thinking the inane political threads would stay away for a while. C'mon guys there's still over a year until your mid-term elections, can't we wait a little while before every other topic in the Grill Room is about politics again? Because seriously, if you think anybody is going to change their political views because they read your opinion on the internet you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Absolutely. I'm happy the big three topics rarely pop up on the course itself. I hope no one at my club figures out that the best way to beat me at match play is to ask me a loaded political question.

Ronald Reagan was considered a moderate at most clubs have been to...LOL. I can only tell you that I consider Reagan the greatest President in my life time...and he is viewed as an icon in our Men's Grill area!!

I personally think politics and golf shouldn't mix - as a liberal one thing I knew picking up this game last year was that most golfers are conservative republicans. The good thing I've found though out on the course is that people usually do not want to talk politics and are just looking to play a relaxing round, which is a good thing.

As to your point though - the previous administration deficit giving away handouts throughout his 8 years - it just so happens that his hand outs were in the form of tax cuts to millionaires, govt contracts to companies like blackwater and haliburton, the prescription drug benefit which was a bonanza to drug companies, etc.

My last point, is that Obama is a corporatist - his bailouts went to wall street and large companies, the insurance reform coming up is looking like its going to net a bundle for insurance companies - if you actually look at his policies - this dude is not a liberal or a progressive - hes a moderate at best.

Why not give breaks to those who reinvest and employ? I'm in favor of that rather than to take money away from such entities to hand to people who will never work and just leach off the system.

To your last point of BHO being a moderate...I need you submit results of a valid drug test before I enter a conversation on that. I know you don't really mean it, you are just trying 6to sombody upset. Failed!!

To your first point (yea i am a little backward in writing these) The system is kind of simple...take risk, create jobs, collect wealth, rinse and repeat. If the nobody is out there taking chances and creating products there is not economy...it is called capitalism...neat concept. you ought to read up on it. Also lowering the tax rate is not a handout...it is taking less of their money for them to reinvest so the government can take more. It is interesting how it works. Are you aware of how money works? Using randon numbers see if you can follow. Income of 100.00, tax 30 percent = 30 bucks for washington Income of 150.00 tax of 25 percent = 37.50 bucks for washington. See how that works. Shame liberals can't see the forrest through the trees.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
