I'm currently using a 46° PW, 52° GW, 56° SW and 60° LW, but find I don't use the lob wedge much. Also... I don't think I hit the 56 and 60 as well as I might, possibly because they are stiff steel shafts, and all of the rest of my irons are regular graphite. The two wedges are a lot heavier than my other clubs, and would probably be described as player's clubs (MacGregor V-foil Tours), whereas the rest of my clubs are game improvement (MacGregor MT Mids). There is quite a difference in swing weight. I hit the graphite irons very well.

I'd like to eliminate one of the wedges so I can add a hybrid to my bag. I also own a 60°, wide soled wedge with 10° of bounce (MacGregor MT EZ Out 60°). It has the exact same shaft as the rest of my irons, a 65g, regular flex, graphite shaft. If I bend the graphite 60° to 58°, I think I would end up with a 58° lob/sand wedge with 8° of bounce. I live in Wisconsin, and I wouldn't describe most of the traps at the courses I play as being "fluffy." My question... is 8° of bounce going to be a big liability out of the sand? Or should I buy a 56° wedge with more bounce, that is a little more user friendly? I was thinking of the MacGregor MT EZ Out 56°/12, or a Cleveland CG11, either a 56° or 58° with 2 dots. Thanks for any advice you might offer.

Hey i had a similar set up to you before i changed it because i didn't want a 52 56 60 set up. I have a 46* PW, a 51* and a 58* (see sig) and it is working out well for me because i have less choice on how to play shots. This way, i play more of one shot and so get better at it. Too many choices I think also leaves you with playing the wrong shot into a hole due to so many different ways of playing. I was going to bend my 51 to a 52 to even the gaps but i see no need now.
What I Play:
Wilson Mini Stand Bag | PING G10, 10.5°, Proforce V2 HL S | PING G5, 15°, 18°, Aldila NV 75 S | PING G5, 19°, Aldila VS Proto By You 80 S
Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

You can do it if it's going to help you!!

My PW is 45° , Gap wedge is 50° (but was bent from 52°), Sand wedge is 56° and Lob wedge is 60° (bent from 58° ). This way I have less bounce on my 50° and more on my 60° which I mainly use my 60° as the Green side bunker wedge or if it's buried in deep grass. Any thing else from 85 yards and in I use 56° which has less bounce than my Lob.

The main thing is to find what works for you!

I don't see the need for 4 wedges in my bag so I only play three. My gaps are 46, 54, 58. I could bend the 54 to 52 put i see no need for it. if i'm between clubs (120 to 100 yards) i'll chocke down on the pw and get the distance i want. my sand and lob wedges work great, i just need to start using the 54 more cuz i have the habit of playing the spinning chip way too often.
in your set i would bend the 60 to 58 and put in a graphite shaft so that you have the same shaft as your other irons. haven't had any experience with the two wedges you mentioned.

I think your club fit is poor and this is why you don't like the wedge set up. These are the most important clubs in your bag and you need to LOVE them. Next time you play add up how many strokes you take inside 100 yards. I would consider getting a matched set of wedges in gap, sand, and lob if I were you. I got a set of brand new in shrink wrap Cleveland 588 DSG wedges recently for $210. If interested, PM me and I will send you a link. Awesome wedges and I can't imagine a mismatched set of wedges. Aside from that, at a minimum, get your clubs you currently have professionally fitted. Reading in Dave Pelz "Shortgame Bible" just the other day and he says the wedges as they got more lofted, should have softer shafts, be 1/2" shorter, and have 1/2 degree more upright lie angles. I would get professionally fitted before I made any changes. All your clubs of course, not just the wedges. Club fit is crucial to success on the course. I learned this the hard way. Below is what the wedge set up should look like based on what I read in the book...

Pitching wedge ... normal lie angle as other clubs... regular shaft...

Gap wedge.... 1/2 degree more upright than PW... regular shaft... 1/2" shorter than PW

Sand wedge.... 1/2 degree more upright than GW... softer shaft than PW and GW and 1/2" shorter than GW

Lob wedge.... 1/2 degree more upright than SW.... softer shaft than PW and GW and 1/2" shorter than SW

Food for thought at any rate

You can get the bend, but bending the 60 to 58 will change the bounce characteristics. Probably to around 8 or 9 degrees. It would be a real digger, then.
