I am looking to put a new shaft in my driver and I'm looking for recommendations.

I have a Titleist 983E 8.5* with stock stiff speeder shaft. On the launch monitor my ball speed is 185-195mph which roughly equates into 125mph clubhead speed. Launch angle and spin rate are good, I get a nice low boring trajectory which is the reason why I bought the driver in the first place.

I played with a guy the other day that couldnt believe Im playing an s-flex in my driver. He suggested an XX flex and let me hit his - it felt impossible to hook left which was kinda nice. I play x100s in all of my irons and it really got me thinking.

Its really very difficult for me to find a place nearby where I can actually demo a driver with an extra stiff shaft which is probably why I just went for the best fit with s-flex at the time. If you have any shaft suggestions I could look into I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks. Does anyone have experience with the UST V2 tour shafts in X-flex? Its something Ive been looking at.

Very few people need a X flex shaft.

How far do you hit the ball?
over 300 yards?

Because if not go with the stiff.

Curious... if you're already getting good launch angle and spin rate numbers and are getting your desired ball flight; why fix what doesn't seem to be broken?

The trajectory is great, but the shot dispersion isnt. Tendancy for it to hook a couple times each round. When I hit the XX flex it felt like I could go at the ball without the possibility of it going left.

James_Black, yes I hit it 300+.

Very few people need a X flex shaft.

If he's swinging 125 - he's crushing the ball and will definitely need an x-flex.

I've used the UST Proforce V2 in an S-Flex - it's slightly stiffer than what some people consider s-flex and it may come off as boardy until you swing it. It's a light shaft that really comes alive when you go at the ball. I used it in a TM Burner (09). I currently use a Fubuki in an R9. Feeling between the two is very different; if you like to go at the ball, I think the V2 in X would be something you should try. Just my 2 cents

QFT

I use a V2 when I play tournaments because I can go at it and the ball stays straight. I play the 75 gram version S. It feels extra stiff. Then again I only swing 115-117. If I juice it i might get 120 but I'd lose control... don;t know how many of those swings I could string together at 125 MPH though... insane.... how tall are you?

Thanks for the suggestions. Ive been scouting the driver specs of many tour players online in the past couple days and it seems as though 90% use an X flex in their shaft of choice. I'm pretty sure I swing as hard as they do and I'm kicking myself for not considering this years ago.

ddalet, I am 6'5", 230lbs. Based on my frame alone its not that hard for me to generate that kind of clubhead speed...it just comes natural to me...however accuracy then becomes the issue.

You need to find a good fitter because you are definitely not the average swinger.

wow, with a 125mph swing speed there is no reason to be playing a stiff flex shaft. Adam Scott swings from 118-121mph and he plays an 85gram extra-stiff proforce v2 shaft.
