Tiger hit a person in the gallery with a tee shot that was headed OB and the ball rebounded into the fairway. Wish I had someone out there to knock my errant drives back where I can find them and go for the green. Luck goes along with great play, no doubt about that!

It wasn't headed OB. It was a few inches outside the rope. The guy was standing on the rope line. OB was another 30 yards away.

And luck goes both ways. I've seen players get horrible bounces off of people or structures or whatever. The main advantage fans provide is to define the fairways, distances, and of course to help find balls that do scatter off into the weeds. At the beginning of coverage, Lucas Glover (or someone) hit a ball on the roof of the spectator tent and it bounced back much closer to the green. He got up and down (it was a par 5) for a birdie. That was far luckier. Even with a free drop, he'd have been horribly shortsided.

Another advantage is trampled-down rough when the player hits into the gallery. A lot of times, it's better to miss the fairway by ten yards than three.

You're right. I forgot that one. It may be more important than galleries finding balls (because, after all, it's easier to find a ball when the grass is trampled!

).

    • A study done by the European Tour shows spending less time over the ball produces better shots.  This makes sense. I can see where if you are over the ball a long time you lose the ability to make a more athletic swing. There is also the possibility of just overthinking the shot while over the wall as well and not being in the right headspace.
    • I recently picked up a vintage Ping Hoofer Lite carry bag.  I am not sure how old it is but estimate it is probably from around 2012 or so? I cannot figure out how to adjust the straps! I am going to try to attach a picture of the bag and will also describe it below. I cannot figure out how to adjust the straps in a way that makes the bag comfortable to carry.  The bag also seems to want to be more upright/ vertical than how you would normally carry a bag like this. I have tried to search this site and others on the web but almost all info is on the newer ping Hoofer bags which have quite a different design. The bag is pretty minimal in terms of pockets and has no handle on the top.  It has 2 backpack straps that are not connected to each other.  They are connected to the top of the bag and in the middle of the bag above the primary ball/ gear pocket. Any feedback appreciated, thanks for your help!
