Hi All,
Going up the the Bay Area over the Thanksgiving holiday and am planning a couple of golf days in the area. The first will be Harding Park just because I want to play the Presidents Cup course, and I hear it's a great course. The other, I'm not sure about. Any suggestions?

Duffy,

It has been a long, long time for me so my memory is fuzzy, but if you are across the bay and not far from Berkeley, I remember playing a course that is in a park around Berkeley that if I recall correctly, I enjoyed, very nice scenery and some very hilly holes as I recall. The name was Tilden Park and was also reasonably priced.

Others with more recent memory might tell me I was wrong, but I think it is at least worth checking into.

Not meaning to rain on your parade ks8829, but there are much better options in the bay area than those mentioned. What kind of golfer are you Duffy? Do you mind driving a little extra and/or paying a little extra? If you're staying in Point Richmond, Tilden Park in Berkeley is probably the closest course, however unless you get one of the first early times, be prepared for at least a 5 hour round. Played a couple 6 hour rounds there and I swore I was never gonna go back. Otherwise, a pretty fun course.

Another course to consider would be San Geronimo if you don't mind crossing a bridge to Marin County, but only about a 25 minute drive. You won't even know you're a 45 minute drive from San Francisco when you get there because once you pass through Fairfax, its pretty much country. You'll pass cows and some horse stables right before you reach the course. Prices might get a little steep for the conditions and you can also run into slow play out there, but definitely a challenging course from the back worth taking a look at.

Stone Tree, also in Marin is a GREAT course and also probably about a 30 minute drive from where you are. One of the premier public courses in the bay area with bent grass greens. They've been in great shape every time I've been out there and offers a variety of different types of holes. Great course.

Longer drive, but definitely an awesome, awesome course out in Livermore, Wente Vineyards. Played out there a couple weeks ago for the first time and would say its one of the best public courses in the bay area without a doubt. You can probably find some deals online as the course is such a drive to get to, I would think they have a hard time filling out their tee sheet.

Any more questions I could probably answer, played most of the courses in the bay area region.
