Well this morning I headed out by myself to play The Hamptons in Virginia. I played the woods/links course. Went out in 44 after a few crappy double bogies (which is normally a pretty good score for me). On the back 9 (the links course) I started off with 5 pars, then bogied the next 3, and finished with another par for a 38! The course is a par 70 with 35/35 split. Previously my best 9 holes was a 42 on a par 35. I was really excited to break 40 and put together such a great round. I have been struggling with my putting lately but had several 1-putt's to save par on the back 9 and a lot of good 2 puts from outside of 20 feet. Might head back out tomorrow morning to tackle Ford's Colony Blackheath!

Great job man! It's always great to finally break through. Now you know you can do it, it's just a matter of doing it consistently. Next time you go out, track your round (# of fairways/greens hit, sand saves, up and downs, etc.) and see what you need to work on. You could probably spend 20 minutes a day on the chipping green and be breaking 40 in no time! :)

Funny you mention that because this is my 2nd round doing all that... I was reading about the program that iacas works on to track all that info, and started scoring my rounds the way he does this past weekend. I hit 9/14 fairways (that is definitely a best for me) and i had 1 sand save and i think 6 up and downs. My biggest issue as of late has been mid-iron play and putting, my iron play wasn't that great today but putting is definitely getting better now that I am getting used to my new Studio Stainless.

That's great man! I haven't used anything other than a Scotty Cameron since freshman year of high school.

Well I got a great deal on it, it was very slightly used and picked it up for $80... thinking about sending it in as a self-christmas present to have it customized by his shop.

Have the greens come back on the links yet? They were kinda crappy last time I played (about 2 wks ago).

Yeah they were as good as I've seen them on that course. Actually a little slow due to the rain from the few days before.

Cool - I might hit it Sunday morning to try and get a round in before football starts. I wish they would have used the same aeration depth that they used at Woodlands - two weeks after they aerated, they were good as new for the blitz on Saturday.

I noticed that, I took a first-timer friend to The Woodlands to play a round and felt that the greens were probably the best they had been all year.

Yeah - the only problem is, when they're putting that well, you're always going to have some group in the blitz that shoots 10-under and blows everyone else away. Most of the time, I'm not in that group
