I'm pretty sure that they are one and the same.

For instance, Titleist make the 690mb and the 690cb - the mb being the muscle back blade, and the cb being the cavity back.

prutkows,

There is a definite difference. Try to find a MacGregor VIP Blade, or a Wilson Staff Tour Blade. These clubs have a sweet spot the size of a pin head. They launch low, and have a low ball flight. Modern muscle backs are much more forgiving and launch much higher than blades of yore.

Really, they're still both considered "blades" (forged) aren't they? The other choice would be CG or "cavity back" (cast) game improvement irons.

Forged vs. Cast is simply a way of constructing the head. There are muscle backs and cast ones like the Celveland CG1. There are also forged and cast cavity backs.

Don't get caught up in the forged vs. cast debate. That's mostly marketing these days with the advent of soft stainless steel alloys and modern computer designed club heads. A true traditionalist who has hit them all would have three different categories. Blade - Hogan Apex, Wilson Tour Staff, MacGregor VIP. Muscle Back - Nike Blade, 690.MB, 660, CG1. Cavity Back - anything with a cavity.

    • Terry - what a story…I’m about 12 yrs your junior but I do have friends in similar places of life. Like others have said - “go for it”.  The fact that you’re willing to challenge yourself in the midst of dealing with something like Parkinson’s is hero level stuff….looking forward to seeing how this great adventure plays out and make sure to get some of it on video as well.  Make them memories dude!
    • Played nine today. Just went out trying to make a swing that had the feels of what I am working on. I would give it a C- at best. The best swing came on the 9th hole, 220 yard par 3, downwind. I finally made a swing where I felt the pause, and the arms down stuff like I practice. I hit the 4 iron about 215 yards, it rolled just off the back of the green about 20-Ft from the pin.  I might play 10 yards shorter on every iron shot, and make that pause swing, cause I can still hit it about 90-95% the distance.  Distance wedges or 3/4 wedges are going to different. Shanked two of them today trying the pause, arms down stuff. Might spend a bit of time looking at the video on those shots specifically.
    • Day 350: good practice session today. Hit about 25 balls, working slowly on my priority piece. It looks decent in slow motion. Better at full speed but not quite there. Then putted for about an hour. Focused on putts inside 10’ but also did a stack putting session.
    • Two of my golfing Buddie's are left handed. I will play a couple of rounds and use their clubs and see how I do.  Played last Thursday and had the worst game ever. (Playing in really strong winds. (SW @ 20 to 30 mph with > gusts.)  Will let everyone know when I get back out. May not play until Monday.   Thanks everyone, for your encouragement.    Terry
