I usually do not choke down, I have found that since my hands are very close to my body when chipping many times the end of the club handle gets stuck in my pants and redirects my chips shots.

find what works for you with practice. In a previous forum the questions was ask if you use many clubs to chip and use the same stroke or only one club and vary the backstroke to judge distance.

Main goal is to make solid contact when chipping, distance control and direction.

I started playing with the face of the club when chipping, square, closed and open. I have found this is helpful when I need to stop the ball over a bunker or run the ball on longer approaches.
