What are you so surprised with? Tiger can hit his 8 iron 179 yards. 6 iron with 185 yard is normal for my handicap. I actually should use px 5.5, like DG S300, but I chose 5.0 coz I don't want to swing a too heavy club. As I mention, 5.0 gave me a higher ball flight but I don't mind,I hit the 5.5 with the same distance with 5.0, just higher ball flight. So can you give me some points that what made u surprised?

Usually the farther the ball goes, the higher the swingspeed.

Generally the higher the swingspeed, the stiffer the shaft & lower torque needed in order to maintain good dispersion. Being able to control a shaft with such a low frequency while hitting it so far with tight dispersion (as you stated) is extremely rare. Also as an FYI: PGA tour average as per trackman lists the 6-iron as 182 yards of carry (clubhead speed of 92 mph) But hey, if it works for you, great.

I don't know how yall all supposedly hit 180 yard 6-irons and think that is normal (note the above post that says tour pros average 180ish 6 irons). On the launch monitor a few weeks ago well-struck 6 irons for me went about 175 with a draw (maybe 170 carry), with a pretty consistent swing speed of about 82-83. On the course I never go at a 6 iron that hard and like to try to hit a cut, and use it from about 155-160 out. If I'm 175 out I'll try a cut 4 iron. My playing partners will usually try to hit a 6 iron that far and only pull it off about 1/10 times. I find leaving about 10-15% in the tank works wonders for shot consistency, although any more than that and I start to hit some ugly shots trying to hold back.

I tried both the PX 5.5 and DG S300 and for me there was no comparison, the DG felt so much better. As above, my 6i SS is 82-83, driver high 90s.

s300 shaft is fairly versatile, i hit a 6i about 190 and carries 195 on a DG s300 with a fairly high swing speed (my driver is better than 120) the big problem that i have is taking big divots takes a greater toll on your wrists due to the spring back. just at bandon and hit a shot where the club ended up stopping at impact but my hands kept going - didn't feel good. a cadddy told me to try an X-shaft and it did go through smoother but the extra oomph to swing it was not negligeable. my shafts are all probably too soft for me but i find when i go to stiff it wears me out quicker. i play a GD ys-6 in my driver and i love the feel of it but if i really go after it accuracy suffers greatly where it doesn't with an X. but i have a DG s300 in all my clunbs except the driver mizuno t-zoid 3 wood (yeah it's old but find me one i hit better and i'll buy it) mizuno mp14s 2-p(same thing) and both my high bounce and low bounce sandwedges.

on the other hand, my father, who hits a 6 iron about 140 plays the same DG s300 shaft. it's a versatile shaft that's easy to swing and has excellent feedback

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
