Two years ago when I was getting into golf, my uncle and I built my first set of irons with Hireko golf components. The clubs are Dynacraft LGC II heads with Dynamic Gold Lite stiff shafts. These heads have a super low center of gravity and I hit them sky high.

I have always had a problem with hitting these to the right. Even when I was hitting my driver and woods straight, my iron shots would always leak a bit right (up to 10 yards). I did a bit of digging and finally came up with the head specs and this is the offset:

5 and 6 iron - 1.5mm = .056"
7 iron thru PW - 1.0mm = .039"

I went to compare this to other clubs (game and non-game improvement) and found

AP2 5 iron offset = .130" (3.3mm)
G15 5 iron offset = .28" (7.1mm)

I have realized that my irons have a very small offset. I am really enjoying this clubmaking thing (recently finished driver) and am looking to build another set of irons since it really won't cost me all that much to do. So I am wondering what differences I would see if I built an iron with a bit more offset than mine currently have. The set I'm currently looking at has 5 iron offset of 3.8mm (.149") and decreases as I go down the set. Will this increase be noticeable?

I also read that higher offset clubs will lower the trajectory because the CG of the club head is moved to the front (where it is in the back on low offset clubs). Has anyone had experince with changed trajectories due to change in offset between sets of irons?

Well when I changed to my FP's they have a bit of an offset and I hit the ball high.

I've got a sam snead 3 iron that's from the 80's.
I hit the 3 iron the same hight as my current 5 iron and it goes around 5 yards to the right.

So I guess offset does make a difference in trajectory.

using more offsett will give you more time to square the face and perhaps eliminate that fade. i think trajectory depends on the cg of clubs and the clubhead-shaft combination. Not sure that offset affects trajectory.

That was my understanding as well.

http://golf.about.com/od/faqs/f/offset.htm I've been considering new Iron just for that reason. My mx-25's have a higher offset and the ball flight starts where I'm aiming, but I get more draw than I like these days and end up left of target.

Anyone have any input on this?

I don't know which variable causes which change. My only experience with this is this past April I changed irons. I'd been gaming a set of fitted Callaway X14 Pro series (very little offset) with stiff Rifle shafts.

I went to the fitted set in my sig line with the stiff AWT shaft. I was very accurate with the Callaway irons but wanted an "easier" club to hit that yielded more carry. I certainly found that in the PINGs. They launch with ease and fly very high. Distance is the same to 1/2 stick longer. Accuracy is starting to get there as I grow more accustomed to them. The only downside here is playing in the wind....the high ball is beat up pretty bad. I can account for this and use more fairway woods as needed and produce some low stingers with them. I can hit fades and draws with these fairly easy, too, in spite of all the hoopla that says otherwise. It's nice hitting high cut shots into greens. Playing a spinnier ball really enhances this. I'm getting backspin sometimes that never fails to put a smile on my face...even though it does nothing to my scorecard. Backspin is cool to watch. I don't know what to tell you...other than my recent experience. My belief is that more offset will perhaps give you higher trajectories.
