Choosing Wedges

My question to the forum is... how?

With drivers you can go to the store/range and they'll set things up for you (a fitting that is, with swing speed, ball speed, etc) ... likewise for irons (impact tape, loft, lie, etc)... but wedges? Chipping at the range? Chipping indoors? Sand?

Any recommendations on how to, "fit myself" with a wedge than just, "feels good." Tx.

it's all about trying out some different wedges and finding which one performs they way you want it to. i think vokeys are great wedges but that's because they do what I'm looking for, i'm able to hit a 3/4 54* to make it stop as soon as it bounces or hit my 58* the same distance, comfortably fly it past a bunker and have it spin back 15 feet right by the hole. i can hit good sand shots and hit bump and runs or play spinning chips. the vokey allows me to perform the shots i'm want to hit.
trying out different wedges will also help you find the right bounce. usually wedges have the same lie angle as your irons or a more upright one because they're shorter clubs.

But should I just buy a Vokey (or any other wedge) , use it and then return it if it's not working for me? That sounds a little... I don't know... wrong. I wish I could just take some wedges, go out to a patch of grass and sand with a green and just hit them all. Roger Dunn has a 90 day satisfaction pledge but... I just can't see buying a wedge, chewing up the grooves (especially in sand) and then bringing it back saying, "I don't like it." There may not be a better way though

You should find some wedges to hit or try them at a demo day, that's how i tested the vokeys and the pro shop let me try them for two weeks because i work there. i'm not sure how things run in the US but i hear loads of people do what you mentioned...take a wedge back if u don't like it and get another one. the best option is to try them at your pro shop, that's if you can.

Try and find a demo day. Or...ask your friends or playing partners if you can try theirs. Another option is to buy a few used wedges (just make sure they have a return policy) and take 'em for a test drive. Return and then buy new of the ones you liked - or, just keep the used wedges that you liked.

You can ask for feedback all day long and do as much research as you like - but, like putters, wedges are so subjective. You definately have to find the one that FEELS best to you.

What Ive done is bought used wedges for cheap on Ebay and tried them out. You can usually buy used wedges that are still in good condition for cheap, which is a good way to try out different stuff and see what you like.

Go to your local golf store and get them to tape up a couple wedges and hit some balls into the simulator.

If you have a PGA Tour Superstore near you and it is like the two around me there will be several bays dedicated to demo wedges. There is a pretty good selection so you can try the different.

If I were you, you could do one of three.
1. You could go to the store, and just test out all the ones there and focus on FEEL. But as you said, it looks like you are looking for better demo.
2. You live in Cali, I'm pretty sure there are store that let you demo( I think so, but in Canada I have yet found a dealer that will lend it out to me).
3. If the clubs aren't urgent for you, wait until manufacturers have a demo event at a certain golfing range or golf course.
Maybe one more, go with the reviews.
