Cool forum! Just discovered it. I'll introduce and ask a question in one post.

Been playing for over 20 years...grew up playing Wilson Staff FG-17, never scored well until switching to 845's 10 years later--went through many different clubs since!

Became an equipment freak for a while and tried everything under the sun. Check out my bag in my sig, all old school stuff (besides the 2003 driver), but love the feel of all of them. Get some strange looks pulling out the old System 2 3-wood, but it just feels great off the tee and deck, same goes with all the other clubs. Happy with everything.

Except...

The driver! Because I love the feeling of ripping the DG R300 fairway woods (that springy steel feeling, you know what I'm talkin' about? and the sound!), I'm wondering what you guys think about reshafting a 305cc titanium driver with either an DG R300 or S300 shaft? I'm looking for a lower ball flight actually and more consistency. I carry current 3-wood around 210-220yrds (really rolls out though) and just want the same feeling and consistency out of the driver.

Any suggestions, advice, tips on reshafting in steel?

Thanks and I've enjoyed going through all the posts!

Driver: FT-5 Tour 8.5* neutral
3 wood: TEE CB1 15*
Irons (3-PW): Nike forged blades
SW: Sonartec T35 proto 54*
LW: Sonartec T35 proto 58*Putter: Yes! Tracey

I think that, if the driver was built for a graphite shaft, that it will feel extremely light in the head and totally screw up your feel.

Steel shafted drivers had heavier heads. Graphite shafted drivers have lighter heads. I'm sure a clubfitter can give you more details...

I couldnt agree more.. I dont see you being happy with the "feel" of the club after making a change like that..

Doh! Never even thought about that; thanks for the info--just saved me a lot of hassle and disappointment. So I guess the solution is to just keep working on it with the driver, eh? I don't really want to spend the money for a different graphite shaft...so I guess that's it! Thanks guys

    • Day 244 (3 Jan 24) - Friday men’s group round - a really solid front nine at one over 37 from the gold tees. Out of the 8 pars - six were up and downs…the lone bogie included a water ball penalty stroke.  At the turn, game shifted to my typical reality as it was a 45 with open and close dbls on 10 and 18, with five bogies and two pars strewn in between. Still a solid 82 overall - with 28 total putts (incl one 3 putt) 5 GIR and 5 nGIR.   Oh the highlight of the day - the ladies’ teaching pro was in our foursome and she was very complimentary of my overall approach and wedge game.  It made those drills in the backyard well worth the time spent.
