your going to need to release the #4 and #1 if the left arms stays on the chest to long it will create to much tilt to the right...... also i was told to prevent the hips opening up to soon try to keep the trailing leg straight a little longer while pushing the hips forward.... this also will give room for #4 to come down

Damnit, what's your cue to release #4 & #1? Do you do it as soon as you reach the top of your backswing or after your lateral weight shift? Do you have a swing thought or a feeling what you can give me to help with this?

don't know about other people using the swing pattern but for me i try to make it a fluid motion..... i use to goto the top pause a little bit and then do it and it caused some problems for me..... you have to blend the accumulator release with your weight shift. So you wanna feel as your hips are moving forward, you will be pulling down with your left arm and straightning the right arm without the shoulders spinning out. Make sure your keeping pressure in the last 3 fingers of the left hand, pressure of the pad under your right thumb pushing on the left thumb, and pressure in the right trigger finger.

You may also have good result, from lowering the right shoulder on the down swing.
Try swinging like skipping stones, or hammering a nail sideways.

If PA 4 and PA 1 dont release correctly then you likely will have too much bend in the right arm at P6, then drop it under plane.  Combine that with to much slide of the hips and a head that hangs back it gets very hard not to hit a hook.

I have this problem.

I work on getting it to the top and feel like there is nothing moving but the arms, feels like right shoulder up as long as possible.

edit: wow did not realize this thread was so old..........

Yeah, it's old. :-)

Dave and I just talked about this today... PA1 releases pretty late, and we think the majority (not a large one, but > 50%) of people release it too early. Obviously I trust that you know what you're talking about for your swing, so you're in the other group... I'm just speaking more generally. Many of our students need to hold 1 longer.

Also, most people who hold 4 a long time might very well get their shoulders so open they wipe the ball rather than uncock and do everything they can to drop it under. Their heads will tip back and they'll do everything they can to get the club to the ball sooner.
