Alright, well, today I got the correct 3wood in. Turns out I got sent a sent one with a different shaft at first, what I'd originally asked from my Callaway Rep, but then changed shaft spec when I went down to get fit. Anyway... Got the one I can hit today and boy oh boy, just a great club! I only used it three times today, but each time performed exactly how I'd like. A punch cut off the tee of a par 4. Another tee shot off a par 4, a big high bomb. Lastly off the deck on a par 5. I seriously annihilated this one! This club is so fantastic it I can hardly stand it. My driver was shipped yesterday, Carlsbad is UPS one-day ground from me... I could be hitting my FT Tour tomorrow!

The Golf Warehouse is here in town, Titleist will be here Friday with their road fitting equipment. I will go in, should be fun. Since I switched from ancient Titleist to Taylormade last fall I doubt they will overwhelm me, but I have never been to one of these dog and ponies before.

So with a few more days under my belt with the 3wood and Driver and man am I liking these things! The Diablo Edge 3wood is just out of control. I love this thing. The feel off the club face is great. On top of that, the ball really goes! As far as the driver goes, still a little more time and I'll be nails with it. But, from how I'm hitting it now, I am glad I switched from the FT9 (which I really liked as well). Anyway, the most noticeable difference between the FT9 and FT-Tour are the mishits. Solid shots go maybe 5 yards longer, but the mishits are much closer to solid shots in terms of both distance and stray from my target line. This driver seems like it holds its line much better on those mishits.

Next up are irons and wedges. But it looks as though those are still a month away...

How are the X-Forged Irons you play? I know you are sponsered by Callaway but without any bias, how do they compare to other player cavity backs? Right now they are at the top of my list, but I'm defnitely still considering the Titleist 710 CBs and Cobra Pro CBs.

may i ask why at only 104mph with your driver do u use an x-stiff flex? i assume its for more control. i use diamana whiteboard 65g stiff and cut it down an inch for better control. i found the stiff shaft created a bit better feel than just a normal X flex. but i've really yet hit an X for a long period of time. just curious because i'm up in the air about switching.

In my Diablo Edge Tour/ Titliest Stand Bag:
Driver: Nike VR Pro 8.5* w/ Myazaki 43g X

I absolutely love my current X-Forged. The look of the club is perfect to my eye. When I hit them, they feel great. Not too buttery, at the same time not to sharp. They are reliable and I've built up a great trust with them. I really wish Callaway would bring the first generation design back with conforming grooves. I'm going to talk to my sales rep about that tomorrow!

You know, I should be more in touch with other clubs, but I'm just not. The one club that I've hit other than mine is Ping's S58. That is a seriously fun iron. The others I just shy away from. Don't want to get my clubs jealous or anything... ha. That being said, I don't hear any bad things about Titleist's nor Cobra's clubs. I will say that it is rare too see Cobra CB irons on the minitours I play. Titleist's AP2 on the otherhand are a common site.

Sure. When I went to get fit, the fellow I worked with explained to me that 104 is right on the lower cusp for X flex. You are right, I've been using X for control. I did go from 65g to 70g. I never realized how different 5g feels. But there is certainly one. I need some good range time with it to iron things out. Haven't had that kind of time yet. I feel like at the high end of Stiff I'd have too easy a time of whipping my hands over and roping a huge draw. Just that kind of shot almost killed me at Asian Tour QSchool this year. Anyway, yeah, control. I must say, your method of cutting down a Stiff does sound interesting!

    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
