Just go fitted by Bo Hodnett in Plano and he said I need a extra stiff shaft, then I went to the shop and told the guy I was looking for extra stiff and he said that I should just go with stiff. On the sheet it says club speed: 96mph and everything else is standard, I was hitting my 6iron 180 - 190 .... any input?

Also any ideas on shafts? Project x 6.5, x100 are a few I've seen but not really sure of the difference. Thanks.

Thanks.

I would go with the advice of your fitter over the "guy int he shop." Unless of course, the guy in the shop was a master club fitter himself and he's capable of fitting clubs without ever seeing the person swing?

Honestly, it all comes down to your own personal swing. I'm capable of swinging the club fast enough for x-stiff, but prefer stiff dynamic golds. I just feel like I have to put more effort into each swing to get the most out of x-stiff dynamic golds. During your fitting, were you not able to hit x100's and Project X6.5's and other shafts? You should have been able to hit a few different shafts to get a better idea of the ball flight. Without hitting them and seeing the ball flight, it's really a gamble at best.

Need some more info. Was the 96 mph swing speed for the 6-iron or driver? If it's for your 6 iron, and with the yardage you claim to hit it, an X shaft seems the right choice. If the 96 mph was with a driver, that's borderline R or S, certainly not X. BTW, who was the "guy" in the shop? Was he just a clerk, or was he someone who knows about clubfitting?

As far as shafts, Rifle or True Temper are both very good. Project X is quite expensive ($30 per shaft +/-). Only way to know which is best is to hit some demos and feel for yourself.

sorry for not being clear the 96 is with my 6 iron. No I didn't get to hit other shafts, he just had me swing my 6 iron ( taylormade r7 stiff steel ) and got measurements. He told me my launch angle was good and that I should shorten my club 5 iron 37 3/4. Thats about all.

To me, it doesn't sound like you got a very accurate fitting. Sounds like more of a "static" fitting rather than a dynamic fitting based on your swing and tendancies. I'm not sure about Taylor Made, but I know Titleist has a fitting cart where the shafts are interchangeable (takes a few seconds to change shafts) and you can litterally hit every shaft to get an idea of ball flight, feel, etc. I personally wouldn't make a decision until I've hit the shaft I'm going to buy. Made that mistake once with a driver where all the "fitter" had was a stiff shaft but based on my swing and launch monitor results he recommended an x-stiff... big mistake. One that I won't make again.
