Need help playing HD video on PC

So here's the latest. I added 4GB of ram to my desktop and no improvement. As others mentioned, XP doesn't really handle RAM over I believe 3 GB. Now I'm starting to believe this is an issue related to both PC's running at 32-bit vs. 64. My desktop is 64-bit capable but only running XP. Does Windows 7 have a free trial download i could try?

HD playback is about CPU and GPU power, that is the processor and the graphics card. If you can't run it properly with Media Player Classic, I don't think you'll be able to run it at all. System memory doesn't matter as much, you can run it with 1GB, some even 510MB. Vista might be a problem, but I don't think it will matter if the hardware and software is right.

KMPlayer is also a good one, but I don't think there are any better than MPC.
