Has anybody seen these in person yet? I saw some in Golf Galaxy today, and it appeared to me that they had just a very slightly different head shape than previous Spin-Milled wedges. I can't decide if it was an optical illusion, but to me it looked a tiny bit more like a square head shape rather than teardrop... and just an ever so slighly less-rounded leading edge. I compared both models side by side, but it was still inconclusive. Maybe my head was playing tricks on me.

Anybody have these in the bag yet? Any reviews?

They were playing tricks on you. They're the same. The same as last year's Vokeys, that is... which were changed subtly so that they matched throughout the lineup.

Speaking of Vokey C-C wedges, there was a thread I read a few weeks ago which showed the measured spin rates of the C-C wedges compared to the 2009 Spin Milled Vokeys, CG15s, X-Tours, and other wedges from the fairway and from the rough. I searched for that post this weekend using various keyword combinations, but could not locate it. I even tried Google. Can someone post a link?

Thanks

slightly off-topic (sorry), but i dont have enough posts to start a thread, so i'll resurrect this one:

has vokey shown any indication of bringing back non-spin-milled wedges? i'm thinking about replacing my 690MB PW with a 48* vokey with a nice shaft, but i'm worried that the spin-milled face will also exaggerate my lateral spin and make spray the ball on full-swing shots. the ~125 yd wedge is a shot i can't afford to lose, and i already put a ton of backspin on that shot. can anyone comment on hitting longer shots with a spin-milled wedge?

My pro uses them. He's an old fart so he actually prefers the new grooves on wedges. I hit them and you can really see a difference in the way the ball goes when you get lies with grass behind the ball. You get this weird loopy knuckleball ballflight.

I prefer the 200 series vokeys for similar reasons. The SM's just felt more hard and harsh to me. I dont think the 200 series retails anymore, but you might find a shop that carries old ones they havent sold yet. Im pretty sure you can still order them directly from titilest, too.

thanks. i'll have to see about ordering direct from titleist. i can't seem to find one at any of the local golf shops, and picking my shaft would be a plus. if they sell them at all, is it safe to assume they'll still customize, or are they likely to only be selling remaining "off-the-shelf" wedges with stock shafts?

I would assume that if you find one in a shop that it will be the stock option. Ive never seen a vokey in a pro shop with anything other than the DG wedge shaft in it.

As of right now they don't offer the 200 series anymore direct from Titleist. Only the spin milled version, I wanted to replace my AP2 PW with a Vokey and couldn't find a 200 series anywhere and everywhere told me they didn't offer the 200 series anymore. I ended up buying a 710 MB PW, which I love so much I might end up buying 6-9.

I don't want why they stopped making the 200 series, they were really nice.

Really? That kinda sucks. I always hoped id be able to get new ones through the website if i had to. Why did you want to ditch the AP2 PW if i may ask?

I never hit it well from day 1. On full swings instead of going farther it would just go higher and spin more. I have no idea why it was like that (maybe the tungston in the sole?) but swapping in the 710 MB has made a huge difference.

sorry - i meant if titleist was still selling them direct - would i likely be able to order custom, or would they just be selling leftover standard wedges with the dynamic gold wedge... not crazy about that shaft, and it's way more expensive to buy a new one and change the shaft than it is to just order a custom club.

edit: based on hokie2k5, it sounds like this is unfortunately a moot point. i guess i'll have to find one and change the shaft.

    • I’ll just stick to the basics for now - got enough to work on… this is my home practice range. The little clearing in about the center of the photo is roughly 200 yards.

    • Played Musgrove Mill today. 72.3/155. +9 for 15 official holes as 2 holes are closed, and the par 5 16th plays as a converted par 3. We played the first three holes over to finish 18, and parred 1 and2 amped bogeyed 3. The good: hit every fairway. 1 less than normal for the converted par 3, but the second time I have done that this year. My sand wedge approach on 10 after a monster drive hit the pin in the back left corner hit he pin and spun away to 9’, and I missed the putt.   The great: hit 8 GIR and 7 were inside 10’. Needs work: Missed every birdie putt. No lip-outs. Just struggled on fast greens. Three-putted the par-5 9th with the pin on the back tier and jut missed hitting my approach to the proper level and it spun all the way to the front of the green.
