Went to demo day at local Golf Galaxy. The Adams and Callaway reps were there.

Adams guy was showing off hybrids, and I told him of my ill-fated hybrid adventure from last spring. (Couldn't get it to work).

Anyway, he challenged me to do a side-by-side test of my X20 3i and an Adams hybrid. The Callaway guy then added a hybrid to the mix.

----------------
Note: I had abdominal surgery six weeks ago, and am just starting full swings again, so this test may not be an indicator of optimum performance.
----------------

The contestants:
* X20 3i...21* loft.... 38.75" Uniflex steel shaft, 105 gr.
* Idea a7 3h... 19* loft... 40" R-flex graphite, UST ProForce AXIV 85 gram graphite.
* Diablo Edge Tour 3h.. 21*...40.25" R-flex graphite, DE Hybrid Tour 70 gram Graphite.

After several minutes of warm-ups, I hit four shots per club on the launch monitor.

X20 3i: bad pull | 2 somewhat low but dead straight about 170 yds | one sloppy slice
Idea 3h: Two pulls, two draws, best about 180
Diablo 3h: Four fades, all about 175

* Both hybrids had better ball height than 3i. Not sure if 3i would work better once I get back into shape.
* Both a7 and Diablo set up in such a way it was easy to hit down on them like an iron.
* Distinct topline on both hybrids made it easy to square up the clubface at address. (Not sure why one was a draw, the other a fade).

Not sure what I'll do in the short run (can't find spare $200), but it's nice to know that some hybrids actually do work!

I was also going to comparison test my 4i vs. the 4h models, but I didn't want to hog the launch monitor on a busy day.
