Like many, I line my putts using the logo on the ball. However, the process I follow to do so, takes between 3-40 seconds from the moment I'm clear (after someone else has putted). I basically figure out my line, then line the ball up, stand up and check the ball line, often I'll have to take my finger and draw an imaginary line down the ball logo to the spot where I'm aiming, and finally readjust the ball if necessary. It just feels long sometimes. So, besides tinkering with the my routine (which doesn't get good putting results anyway) I'm looking for a ball marker with an arrow on it like the ones below:

Has anyone seen one of these for sale online? The 1st was a pic from from a Britain and the 2nd is a unavailable for purchase. I'm hoping that being able to mark my ball and begin my lining up process earlier (while others are putting) will significantly shorten the process for me. Thx for any help you can pass along.

Looks like you got your ball marker.
As for pre shot routine; stop using the line of the ball. I use to try that and my putting got worse.

My pre shot routine:
  1. Survey the slope of the green
  2. Figure if it's to the cup or a long lag put
  3. Figure out the speed needed
  4. then find the line you want.
  5. On that line, pick a spot 3-12 inches away from your ball to hit over or under or above. What ever it is to keep your ball on that line.
  6. Setup off the ball and do 2-3 practice putts to get the feel for the speed you need.
  7. Step up to putter and align putter behind ball in the direction of your spot that is 3-12 inches in front of ball.
  8. Swing with the same rhythm you practiced for speed.

I'm willing to try that. Before using the ball's logo, I would aim for a spot a couple feet in front of me, however, I'd often lose the spot when I got over the ball so maybe 3-12 inches may work better. Thx.

Usually people look at a spot in front of the ball. In order to not lose it you can mark it with your putter while you set up.

WRX, what do you mean by this? Thx for your input.

J_Bone. I actually had a decent day putting today. I didn't make anything outside of 10 feet, but I had 2 pars and took home a skin in my large group which I rarely do since I'm one of the worse players.

What WRX means is, when you find your spot, rest your putter near or on the spot as you step up to address the ball. That way you find the spot while on top of your ball.

Good!! Glad it helped out.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
