490 yard uphill par 5. It was an ugly first shot, a low snap hook that got a lucky bounce and roll. I had 226 to the pin and about 213 to clear the bunker (pic doesn't show it but there is a bunker under the hole between the end of the fairway to just right of my 2nd line), hit a high draw with a 21* hybrid over the trees to about 6 feet under the hole and drilled the putt.

Looking at the picture, I'm not sure why he didn't hit a fade for his second instead of a high draw. Seems that a mistake would have been much much more costly hitting the high draw than it would have been had he started the ball just left of the green and hit a high soft fade with a 4-iron (or hybrid in his case).

natp0wers, congrats on your Eagle. I'm glad that it worked out but to those of us not familiar with your golf course, can you discuss your shot selection a bit more? From what I can tell based on your description and the provided photo, your Eagle could have just as easily been a double (or worse)...

I am much more comfortable hitting a draw than a fade. That being said my intention was to hit a draw to the front of the green, but i pushed it a little bit thus coming dangerously close to the trees right which i was lucky enough to clear. I was going for the front of the green and not trying to throw a dart at the back pin location. I hit such a bad drive that it was far enough left to have tha absolute best angle to the green giving me the confidence to hit a draw even with trees right. If i am in the middle of the fairway on this hole i usually either hug the right side to the front of the green or lay up to 110 yards.

    • That’s totally fair. I have my chipping issues which make my putter more playable in that situation. Really just confirming that while not optimal there comes a point where if you need to use a putter (for whatever reason) then the optimal mechanics breaks down. I know I’m a sample of one. 😂
    • Day 329 - 2025-08-26 Hit 24 balls before lessons and JEP Summer Session. With the MP-33. 🙂 Put an undersized grip on my VR Pro accidentally.
    • Well, that's not really a putt at that point. You could easily choose to putt that up the slope with a hybrid or something.
    • Day 15 (August 26).  I missed practice yesterday, but otherwise had a 14-day streak going into it.  Somehow, some of my posts for this appear in my profile but I can't seem to see them (I hope I didn't break any rules that would cause them to be removed).  I am hoping I'll be able to keep doing some practice while I'm out to regain the red text.  Context:  am on vacation, this week with friends.  What was today's actual practice? Today, a friend and I decided to go to TopGolf;  it was kind of like being at the range with someone else's clubs.  And that's ultimately how I was able to use it for practice:  I don't practice choosing a target, lining up to it, and then hitting often enough;  that's what this place seems to be about.  In any case, we were there for 90 minutes, I was hitting for maybe 35-40 minutes of that time, and I did pick a target each time.
    • Day 2 - (26 Aug 25) - Church men’s golf nine hole Captains choice.  Had grandson as part of our group - was a blast watching him drill the putts.  Love these no pressure sessions - great for going outside the norm on club selection.
