so occasionally i keep my head down a little longer through impact so i can try and see the way the clubhead goes through the ball. sometimes it looks as though its cutting across and catching the ball on the toe, but never does the ball fade right or pull left. also, theres never a ball mark on the toe, just somewhere near the sweetspot.

anyone else do this or experience this?

I don't. And they say your eye only catches about 60 frames per second anyway, roughly, and that's not nearly quick enough to really see much. Look at film - it's either 24 or 30 (29.97) frames per second, and the clubhead is just a big freakin' blur.

I try to watch something _under_ the ball - the tee, the piece of grass, etc. Because that is moving slow enough that you can see it after the ball suddenly vanishes.
