Does anyone own a Titleist 909 13.5* 3 wood? If so, what do you think about it? I am selling my 15* Callaway since I cant seem to hit it more than 220 off the deck. Plus, its a regular shaft. With the Titleist Ill be getting fitted for the proper shaft. I just wanted to get a feel from you guys as to what you thought about the club? I rarely use the 3 wood off the tee unless there is some serious trouble since I have become rather accurate with my driver. I use the 3 wood on those 500+ par 5's and am very happy with getting it close for a chip up and down birdie.

Which one F2 or F3? I have one of each and prefer the F2, it is the easier of the two to hit, gets up in the air easier and I find it cuts through rough a bit better. I never use it off the tee so I can't really give you any opinions there but I am warning you out of all the fairway woods I've tried (and trust me I've tried alot) the titleist ones are on the difficult side to hit. They are not taylormade burners that you can hit horrifically thin or fat as a cow and still get rewarded, so keep that in mind before buying one.

Jeez how far do you expect to hit a fairway wood off the deck? 220 is pretty good given your handicap. I can't imagine you would gain much more than 5 or so yards, maybe ten by switching.

I hit the previous version, the 906f4. There is practically no difference in performance between the two so i stuck with the older model. But really the shaft is more important than the clubhead if youre looking to hit a particular distance. The titliest FW's have great feel and feedback, but they're slightly fade biased and not really a club for players looking to hit bombs. Like gebus mentioned.

Thats my problem though, I cant really get to a Par 5 in 2 with my current 3 wood. Also the shaft is way to whippy for me so Im going to make that upgrade.

Gebus - Im looking at the F2. Really I guess Im open to any 3 wood, except Taylor Made. Im not a big fan. I hit my buddies Titleist 3 wood off the deck last weekend and it was pretty sweet. I am well aware of thier difficulty and fade bias. Ill be fitted for a set of AP2's shortly and my handicap will be dropping. The next 6 rounds will be huge for me. In early Janurary I joined a new club and a combination of freezing temps, not knowing the course and incorrect iron shafts net me 6 straight round over 98. Then I went to Tampa with perfect weather and shot an 82. I am kinda revamping my bag with the exception of my driver, putter, and wedges.

we always want more lol....i say, hit a long iron to 100yards and stick it inside 10-15ft and go for birdie putts.

Yeah thats what I usually end up doing. I get frustrated though when Im 235-245 out on a wide open Par 5. I mean no water, traps, nothin.....and its just a straight shot to the green. Usually a Par 5 for me is driver, 6 or 7 iron, then 56* or 60* and 2 putt for par. I like to hit the 3 wood close since it gives me a much better chance at being accurate with my chip, in order to set up that birdie putt.

Its weird, but I make more birdies on Par 3's and 4's than I do on Par 5's.

To me it seems like you want a longer club so you can avoid hitting the 9iron-GW. Those are you major scoring clubs so I would be more worried about hitting the range big time with my short irons so I can be more consistent with those clubs no matter if am on a short par 3, par 4 or long par 5. I 'm not saying don't buy a 909 or 906 cus they are great woods and I love mine but I am just saying I think you would see more lower scores if you wedge game had more work put into it.

I own the F2 15.5* and really like it...when I hit it well. They are definitely workable (too much sometimes) and very long if hit correctly. I use it from the fairway as well as off the tee. I would suggest going with the 15.5 because the 13.5* will be more difficult to get up in the air. I have the Diamana blue for Titleist in mine and have no trouble at all hitting a low boring trajectory. Ballooning really shouldn't be an issue for you. I will say that when I was originally thinking about which one I wanted (F2 or F3) I was leaning towards the F3 because it's deeper and I thought that would prove beneficial off the tee. I'm sure it would but it would make those fairway shots harder to hit. Just my two cents. Good luck with the purchase.

Well right now I have a 15* and I am wanting more distance our of my 3 wood. Last night I hit 10 balls on the course with my current 3 wood and the best one went 217. I think going down to the 13.5 will help me gain the extra few yards Im looking for.

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
